• Unique identifiers consist of 40
metadata points and the stone’s
four Cs—color, clarity, cut, and
carat weight are inscribed by
laser technology.
• Diamond thumbprint on a
blockchain : These identifiers are
then encrypted in Blockchain.

Kimberley Process certified
rough diamonds are also digitally
stored on the blockchain, which
are otherwise often tampered.

• In 2015, Everledger first started to securely track and
trace the authenticated provenance of diamonds using
the best of emerging technology on a global digital
ledger. Working with a range of stakeholders across
the diamond supply chain including diamond
manufacturers and downstream retailers, Everledger
has since encrypted the provenance of over 2 million
diamonds in a short three years.
• The Diamond Time-Lapse initiative was developed in
2017. This initiative is essentially a historical ledger of
the movement of diamonds, with real-time data about
the diamond origin, processes including cutting and
polishing, master artisans’ work and certification.

• Diamond-Smart Contracts will be
issued via a simple process initiated
once a diamond holder lists a stone
for trading
• The simple interface will create a
smart contract that represents the
diamond's gemological data and
additional information to allow the
creation of a financial product that
represents the underlying asset, i.e.,
diamonds.
• As the blockchain-based CEDEX
ecosystem evolves, we anticipate the
diamond ecosystem will adopt
Diamond-Smart Contracts as the new
means of trading diamonds.
