This document proposes music video ideas for three songs:
1) Blink-182's "Adam's Song" would tell the story of a man struggling with depression who is ultimately led to hope through a small light. It would be filmed in a dark, ambient setting symbolizing his mood.
2) Neck Deep's "Don't Wait" would have a retro, surreal aesthetic depicting an oblivious family watching fake news in a post-apocalyptic world outside.
3) Shinedown's "State of My Head" would be a live performance montage showing the band generating hype across multiple concert venues through shots of their playing and engaged crowds.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

3. WHY THIS SONG?
• Adam’s Song is a hugely popular song created by the band Blink-182. The lyrics are
hugely significant as they highlight the negative effects of depression and suicide which is
a tremendously vital problem to address in todays society.
• Creating another music video for this song may increase exposure as it may relate to
more people who are affected by depression and suicide and demonstrate to them that
they are not alone.
4. STYLE OF MUSIC VIDEO
• A combination of performance, narrative and concept.
• Live band performance with numerous close-ups of band members to display their
sympathetic emotions which will convey to the audience the seriousness of the video.
• A long side the live performance there will be a storyline following a young man and his
struggle with depression. Throughout these scenes there will be a miniscule light that
directs the man. Ultimately, the light will lead him to new beginnings which will show that
there is light at the end of the tunnel and there is hope for everyone.
5. PRACTICAL DETAILS
• The narrative in the music video will be based in a dark area where there is slight ambient
light to set the tone. Additionally there will need something that symbolises a path that
leads somewhere, for example a train line or a tunnel.
• The actor will be wearing dark grey/black clothing to reflect his mood and state of mind.
6. WHY THIS SONG?
• Reasons why you want do that particular song
• Style of video
• Outline how you would explore the style
• Practical details like location/setting/techniques/mise en scene
• Conventions
8. WHY THIS SONG?
• I believe the lyrics for this song allow for an opportunity to create and unique and exciting
music video.
• The music video can link to the lyrics of the song easily
10. STYLE OF MUSIC VIDEO
• The style of the music video will have a retro aesthetic
that will make everything appear to be ‘perfect’. However,
this should make the audience feel a sense of uncertainty
and that things aren’t as they seem because of the blank
expression on the faces of people in the music video
• A family will be watching the news in a retro living room
(similar to the picture). This adds to the surrealism and
that everything isn’t quite right.
• The lyrics and the music video will link.
11. DETAILS
• Post-apocalyptic world outside where everything is destroyed
• Family all sitting on the sofa watching the news
• News anchor ensures the family that everything is fine and there is nothing to worry
about, despite the obvious post-apocalyptic world outside.
• The blank expression on the families face exhibits how they mindlessly follow what they
are told by the media without second guessing it.
• A section from the song is:
“Turn off your TV station
That's not real information
Trying to define the human mind
It's like puppetry
This part of the first verse is what initially gave me the idea for the music video.
14. WHY THIS SONG?
• This song is a hard rock song that would perfectly fit the performance based genre
characteristics of rock.
• A montage video based around live stage performances would generate further hype for
the song as it encourages people to “rock out” to it.
15. STYLE OF MUSIC VIDEO
• Live stage performance video
• Camera shots of band on stage and of the crowds
• Montage from multiple venues
16. PRACTICAL DETAILS
• Focus on crowd as the song hits the chorus to demonstrate the hype generated by the
band at that point. For example, the line: “round em’ up, round em’ up, let’s go..” could
have a shot of the crowd gathering together and then as the next line of the chorus hits
the crowd starts moshing.
• During the verses the camera shots should focus more on the lead the singer and the
other members of the band with minimal shots of the crowd
