2007 Highlights
Diversity begins at home. DBG has made infusing diversity and inclusion throughout our more
than 13,000 employees a priority. In 2007, we took a fresh look at the tools we use to attract,
retain and cultivate talent throughout our ranks.
Several of our programs and practices were reviewed and some enhanced to explicitly foster
diversity. Recruiting processes were honed and more creative sourcing strategies employed to
attract the best candidates. Various facets of our widely-tread internship paths and our current
leadership programs are being reevaluated to encourage greater diversity.
As existing programs are fine-tuned, new programs are being established to aid in recruiting
and developing the skills of our talented workforce. The DBG Women’s Insurance Initiative
was launched as a pilot program. Taking a cue from programs DBG has in the past used to
pinpoint and develop high-potential talent within our organization, the Women’s Insurance
Initiative pilot gathered 140 female DBG employees who are recognized as high-achievers with
significant future potential.
The initial program objective was simple: establish a dialog and understand what women
perceive as challenges to career advancement at DBG. After “learning by listening,” we can
better understand how to eliminate perceived roadblocks and open the routes these professionals
need to elevate their careers to the next level. Based on the input gathered, leadership and
management training programs are being formulated for 2008.
The Talent Acquisition, Leadership Development and Retention Initiative
By creating an organization with a diverse slate of talents, DBG will bring the perspectives of varied industries and the
experience of different backgrounds, cultures, life- and work-styles to decision making at every level.
Taking our Accelerated Underwriting Training Program outside the organization to professionals in
other industries helps overcome historical roadblocks to diversity in insurance industry management.

Dear Friends,
In the space of a few short years, our Brooklyn
Waldorf School has grown in remarkably
radiant ways. As we launch our first capital
campaign, we do so with confidence that
our School’s star is set to shine even more
brightly still at Claver Castle.
The marvelous opportunities that this new
property presented to us quickly became
apparent, and our community enthusiastically
reached the decision to make a permanent
home there. It is exceedingly rare for a young
Waldorf school — indeed, any young school
— to so quickly realize the dream of being
able to provide the full range of educational
experiences that it seeks to offer its children.
This is now within our reach.
The historic St. Peter Claver campus —
Claver Castle, as we have dubbed it — is
generous in proportion and full of possibilities.
In these pages, we will share with you what
some of these possibilities might be. The
restoration and modernization of Claver Castle
will be a major undertaking and will involve a
continuing process of renewal and capital
fundraising over time.
Throughout this journey, the School’s families
and friends have demonstrated a depth of
