I have never known a time in my life where I have not gone to church. With that being said, it s

degree burns may require skin grafting. Severe burns covering large parts of the body may need
more lengthened types of treatment and intensive interventions such as IV fluids to replace fluids

Throughout his novel, Perfect Peace, Daniel Black focuses on the idea of feminine beauty and
what it means to be a beautiful black woman or a pretty black girl. Black highlights the
problematic nature that rigid internalized beauty standards can have on women well into their
elderly years. Black uses both Emma Jean and Perfect s characters, as well as addition characters
such as Caroline and Eva Mae, to show the negativity associated with black beauty standards. In
the beginning of the novel, Black introduces the concept of beauty, or lack thereof, through
Emma Jean s childhood. Emma Jean s mother, Mae Helen clearly has a set image of what a

Democratic societies are often faced with the issue of having to find a balance between the
preservation of liberty rights, and protecting human rights and promoting equality. As a liberal
society, we must protect the liberty right to freedom of expression; however, being a liberal society
also means that there ought to be a responsibility to protect vulnerable minorities from being
harmed by hate speech. As a result of competing rights, the state often faces the difficult task of
determining when one right trumps the other. In this essay, I will discuss and defend the reasons
why we must restrict certain types of hate speech the kind that assaults our dignity, and is harmful.
Moreover, I will discuss and defend why we must protect the rights of minority groups, and how
doing so can contribute to the greater good of society.
To protect the rights of minority groups, governments must use hate speech laws to shield them
from harms, such as verbal violations and assaults to their dignity, based on their gender, race,
disability or religious affiliations. Harm is caused when hate speech produces a sense of fear,
humiliation, and a belief that one is unwanted in the community. While people possess the right to
freedom of thought, the right to be sovereign in determining their own beliefs and conclusions, as

Economic Interest Groups This is the largest category that includes organizations that represent big

elections and then may become less active, and (3) they depend on the local mobilization of voters

their organization. (Browne, n.d.) One thing that differentiates political parties from interest groups
arises from the nature of the political system in which they operate and from the various electoral

Education in America started with the Pilgrims in the early 1600 s. The first public school was
opened in 1635 in Boston Massachusetts. In 1642, Massachusetts started an education reform that
stated Any child not properly educated would apprentice to a trade . This education reform was
created because they believed it was important for children and citizens to be able to read the laws
of the land. This was the first law that required children to be education. If they were not properly
educated they would be moved from their home to a better fit environment where they would be
able to learn. Virginia then followed with a similar law in 1646. In 1647 Massachusetts founded
an act called Old Deluder Satan Act . This act required towns of more than fifty families to hire a
teacher for reading and writing. Towns of more than a hundred families had to establish a grammar
schoolwhich served as college preparation. Dame schools taught reading and writing to females
because this was all they were expected to learn so that they would not have the same intellect as

Thesis: Women have come a long way alongside men in presenting art in various forms, but
while artistic expression has been based from the male perspective and sexuality, female artists
are becoming more outspoken in their art forms challenging viewers to look beyond the physical
form and go deeper into its meaning. Down through the historical years of art the human body
has been the subject of intrigue and delight. While the display of the nude body has always
bought about controversy for one reason or another, the controversy is only as it applies to the
female nude. Not too much is ever focused on the nude body part of men, but female nudity
causes quite the stir, especially from male viewers. As I delve into this art form of female gaze, it
might be helpful to take a look at the male gaze as it applies to substantiating the female gaze.
The notion of the male gaze has both a literal and a figurative component. Literally the gaze is
male when it involves looks from the male species as a spectator or a participant in the work
itself. Figuratively the male gaze is often involving a female as the object. In Laura Mulvey s words,
man is the bearer of the gaze, woman its object. Laura Mulvey, Visual Pleasure and Narrative

years old. The infants become focused on a particular individual or a few individuals. Bowlby s
aim was to discover the consequences of difficulties in forming attachments in childhood, and the
