Introduction
 There are many biogas projects dedicated for
smallholders in rural Indonesia
 Biogas projects implemented in rural areas of
Indonesia provide an opportunity for other parties
to generate project-related technologies such as
biogas equipments/appliances  Biogas BCL.
 Biogas BCL has been able to make biogas
appliances such as stoves and lamps to biogas
energy sources and has marketed to the
smallholders who have a biogas digester.

 Innovation in SME such as in Biogas BCL plays a
key role so this company can survive and compete
with other competitors.
 This paper tries to analyze the innovation process
conducted by BCL in adopting and developing
technology equipment as well as obstacles
encountered in the innovation.

 Biogas BCL is located in Cicalung, Lembang, West
Java.
 Biogas BCL (Barudak Cicalung Lembang) is an SME
specializing in biogas appliance  2009
 Biogas BCL was formed with the vision to utilize
cow’s manure that pollute Lembang environment
becomes a useful commodity that can create new
job fields for local youth
 Biogas BCL has made some appliance such as biogas
stove, water drain, manometer, biogas lamp, etc.

 Biogas BCL monitors appliance and service of the
use of biogas they made for customers  get
feedback on to what extent the equipment can be
accepted by the user.
 In the process of making biogas appliance, not all
of the manufacturing process conducted by Biogas
BCL
 Biogas appliance productions are also based on
accumulated knowledge possessed by Biogas BCL.

 Although Biogas BCL is an SME, but it has been
doing R&D activities in the creation of its products
innovation.
