I. Objectives (1 pt., together with format, submission of handout used, neatness, etc.)
• Bold-faced or CAPITAL LETTERS if handwritten
II. Methodology (1 pt.)
• Essay form, verbs written in past tense
• Avoid using the 1st-person active voice (i.e., “we” or “I”)
• Instead, use the 3rd-person passive voice
• Use key words or phrases: concise, simple, and clear
III. Data and Results (3 pts.)
• Submit original data gathered, with teacher’s signature
• DO NOT ADD DATA that was not presented to the teacher after the activity. Just discuss
expected data, and/or explain possible sources of error in the Analysis and Discussion)
• LABEL all figures, drawings, tables, graphs, etc. (e.g., “Figure 1. A compound light
microscope”)
• Your grade will be based on the following criteria: completeness, accuracy, orderly
presentation
IV. Analysis and Discussion (4 pts.)
• ESSAY form; not question-answer format
• DISCUSS the important concepts in the lab activity (e.g., definition of terms, etc.)
• ANALYZE your results. RELATE actual data to theory. If there were missing, unexpected, or
“wrong” results, give possible sources of error.
• ANSWER the guide questions in the context of your discussion.
• PARAPHRASE and CITE! Acknowledge ALL sources from the internet, books, journal
articles, etc., as is done in scientific papers (i.e., Author, Year), etc.
V. Conclusion and Recommendations (0.25 – 0.5 pts.)
• BRIEF and CONCISE: highlight the Biological Concept of the activity; just one or two
sentences to summarize the activity.
• Suggestions for improvement and supplementary activities are most welcome!
VI. Bibliography (0.5 – 0.75 pts.)
• AT LEAST TWO BOOK REFERENCES (your Biology text book is NOT counted!)
• FOLLOW PROPER FORMAT of bibliographic citations as is done in scientific papers
