2. Facture
Is an injury to a bone that causes it to break
Fractures are named to describe the type of damage
damage to the bone
While there are many types of fractures I will be
reviewing the greenstick fracture, compound fracture,
and compression fracture
3. Greenstick Fracture
Is a fracture in which there
is an incomplete break
One side of the bone is
broken while the other side
is bent
This fracture is commonly
found in children due to
their softer and more
pliable bone structure
5. Compound Fracture
A fracture in which the skin
has been broken and the
bone is sticking out.
Due to the exposure of the
bone, this fracture carries
a higher risk of infection.
Also called an open
fracture
6. Compression Fracture
Is a fracture involving loss of
height of a vertebral body.
Could be the result of
trauma, such as a motor
vehicle accident or landing
on your heels when jumping
from a height
In an older person,
especially women, it may be
caused by conditions like
osteoporosis which is a
condition of weakened bones
7. Treatment for Fractures
A fracture is a broken bone and requires immediate medical
attention
While waiting for medical help:
Stop any bleeding-Apply pressure to the wound with a sterile
bandage
Immobilize the injured area-Don't try to realign the bone or
push a bone that's sticking out back in
Apply ice packs to limit swelling and help relieve pain until
emergency personnel arrive
Treat for shock-If the person feels faint or is breathing in
short, rapid breaths, lay the person down with the head
slightly lower than the trunk and, if possible, elevate the legs
