biking safety is for all!”
WHY IS BIKE SAFETY
IMPORTANT?
There are many dangers associated with
riding a bike. Those who don’t take bike riding
seriously are the ones that get hurt.
1. Every year, about 300,000 kids go
to the emergency department because of
bike injuries
2. At least 10,000 kids have injuries
that require a few days in the hospital
3. Some of these injuries are so
serious that children die, usually form head
injuries
HOW TO TEACH YOUR
CHILD TO RIDE A
BIKE
1. Encourage them to get out there and try
riding their bicycle
2. Equip your child with the proper gear,
such as a helmet, pads and an
appropriately sized bike
3. Choose a place that is safe, flat and
even to ride. Have your child pedal,
steer and brake with your assistance
4. Once they have mastered this, have
them try to maneuver the bike on their
own
5. Keep a close watch, and encourage
them to not give up
ALWAYS WEAR A
HELMET!
• Wear a helmet every time you ride
• Every helmet should have a sticker that says
it meets standards set by the Consumer
Product Safety Commission (CPSC)
• The helmet should be worn level and cover
your forehead. Don’t tip back so your
forehead is showing
• The straps should always be fastened
• If you fall with your helmet, get a new one for
the best protection
• Wear a helmet around your child to
encourage
them to wear
one
