Editor's Notes

  1. After 4yrs in the open ILS business BCLC has learned so much about public library data operations. We are queued for the latest round, from the grassroots up AND the international stage down. Are you ready? As Open Discovery comes under scrutiny who is speaking for our libraries?
  2. Changes that have seemed incremental for so long are now becoming reality. If you were at ALA Mid-winter much work is demonstrable now through Library of Congress and its contactor Zepheria. But what aspects of Canadian concern might practically apply to that work. Transforming library bibliographic data to the semantic web is underway and LOC RDA implementation is this month.
  3. Who is maintaining z39.50 protocol while all this is going on.
  4. What does your library feel a web 3.0 interface look like? Many have collectively conquered the social catalogue but we are isolated in our struggles to integrate subscribed content, local memory collections, open content and so on. Distancing ourselves from the ‘street address catalogue’
  5. We invite members to get in touch about what’s next in library technical services planning. Whether its tagged Open Data, RDA, BIBFRAME end of MARC or next generation discovery let us know where you need emphasis.
  6. Operators are standing by
