As the Topic suggests, our aim was to visit cultural and public places in Delhi. We went to India Gate and Mandi house. This project was not merely ‘copy and paste’. As a Team we left Our comfort zones, and practically worked for the project. We learned many things about the places mentioned above. We’ll discuss them in detail.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Museum
A museum is an institution that cares for (conserves) a collection of artifacts and other objects of scientific, artistic, cultural, or historical importance and makes them available for public viewing through exhibits that may be permanent or temporary.[1] Most large museums are located in major cities throughout the world and more local ones exist in smaller cities, towns and even the countryside. Museums have varying aims, ranging from serving researchers and specialists to serving the general public. The continuing acceleration in the digitization of information, combined with the increasing capacity of digital information storage, is causing the traditional model of museums (i.e. as static "collections of collections" of three-dimensional specimens and artifacts) to expand to include virtual exhibits and high-resolution images of their collections for perusal, study, and exploration from any place with Internet.[citation needed] The city with the largest number of museums is Mexico City with over 128 museums. According to The World Museum Community, there are more than 55,000 museums in 202 countries.[2]

2. • As a Team, we were supposed to visit public and cultural places around
Delhi, so we decided to visit India Gate and Mandi house. It was a great
learning experience!
• What we did was a practical experience and it helped us in developing our
knowledge about cultural centres around mandi house, moreover, when
we visited India Gate we had that feeling of patriotism within us.
• We’ll discuss about our individual feelings and experiences when we
visited the India Gate and Mandi House.
• To make this project more interesting, we decided to make a short video
on India Gate. Every group member contributed to make that video, we’ll
share that video during the presentation.

5. Mandi House
• Known as the cultural hub of Delhi, Mandi House
contains some of the finest art & cultural
institutions in India- National Museum of Natural
History, Sangeet Bharti, Himachal
Bhawan,National School of Drama to name a few.
• It boasts of being alma mater to some very
successful artists in India and is a budding ground
for many more to come.
• The Mandi House Circle is one of the busiest
traffic roundabouts in the city handling movement
needs from all parts of Delhi.
• Not only does it fulfill the creative urges of the art
lovers, but also promotes a relationship between
the people of Delhi & Arts.
6. National Museum of Natural
History(NMNH)
• The NMNH welcomes us to a stimulating
intellectual, visual and adventure into the
history of nature – a journey through time and
space into the riddles and realms of the
natural world.
• The NMNH is located at the corner of the
Tansen Marg-Barakhamba Road on the Mandi
house Roundabout.

7. • A life-size model of Allosaurus, a dinosaur
which ruled the worlds earlier, standing in the
lawns of the museum building has become the
identification mark of the NMNH.
8. •As one enters the Museum building just
after crossing the reception area he/she
is received by a life-size mounted model
of ‘Mohan’- the one-horned Indian
Rhinoceros, which also serves as the
logo of the Museum.
9. GALLERY 1:INTRODUCTION TO
NATURAL HISTORY:
The Museum has 3 galleries, each representing
different aspects of nature’s history.
• In the gallery 1 on the first floor of the museum, a
geological time chart indicates the probable dates
of origin of different kinds of lifeforms. In the
evolutionary history of the Earth several different
kinds of plants and animals appeared and evolved.
• However, most of them became extict with time as
they were not able to adapt themselves to the
changing conditions on the Earth.
• Natural History has always been a subject of
fascination.
10.
11. GALLERY 2: NATURE’S NETWORK –
ECOLOGY
• Earth is probably the only planet in our solar
system which sustains life. Life on earth is
possible primarily because of its unique
atmosphere.
• The Gallery 2 on Nature’s Network- Ecology
highlights some of the basic principles of ecology,
drawing up examples from various ecological
processes of nature.
• This basic exposure to the delicate network of
nature is intended to create awareness on various
critical environmental issues facing humanity
today.
12.
13. GALLERY 3: CONSERVATION
• The Gallery 3 presents an overview of the environmental
degradation caused by human activities and the need for
its protection and conservation.
• One can also listen to the voices of birds and animals
while watching the exhibit.
• An impact exhibit of a human hand pulling out a tree
symbolically represents our lack of understanding of the
natural system. This has resulted in ruthless exploitation
of nature and natural resources.
• The gallery 3 ends with an exhibit depicting different
ways in which every individual can contribute in the
mission of Nature Conservation.
14. Personal Experience
• The experience I had in the NMNH was one of a kind. I felt
overwhelmed by all those visuals, sounds and creative ways to
explain history of nature.
• NMNH is a great place for both children and adults. One should
never miss beautiful and unique museums like NMNH.
• I had few questions in my mind such as:
• How old is our Earth? How life came into existence and what
conditions made it to evolve only on Earth and why not on any other
planet? After going through gallery 1 all of them were answered in a
perfect manner.
• Gallery 2 cleared all of my concepts regarding the Ecological
Processes of Mother Nature.
• Gallery 3 ends with an exhibit depicting different ways in which
every individual can contribute in the mission of Nature
Conservation.
16. National School of Drama
On weekend I with my group friends visit National School of Drama in Delhi
and spent some time in NSD campus and clicked some casual shots and gather
information about it. Here are some of the photographs of National School of
Drama in Delhi...
17. National School of Drama (NSD)
is a theatre training institute situated at New Delhi, India
autonomous organization under Ministry of Culture, Government of India
set up in 1959 by the Sangeet Natak Akademi, and became an independent
school in 1975
In 2005 it was granted deemed university status, but in 2011 it was revoked
on the institute's request.
Training in the School is highly intensive and is based on a thorough, comprehensive,
carefully planned syllabus which covers every aspect of theatre and in which theory is
related to practice. As a part of their training, students are required to produce plays
which are then performed before the public.
The syllabus takes into account the methods of great theatre personalities who have
shaped contemporary theatre in all its variety. The systematic study and practical
performing experience of Sanskrit drama, modern Indian drama, traditional Indian
theatre forms, Asian drama and western dramatic protocols give the students a solid
grounding and a wide perspective in the art of theatre.
18. Performing Wings
Repertory Company
The professional performing wing of NSD, the 'National School of Drama'
Repertory Company was set up in 1964, with an aim to promote professional
theatre in India. It first head was Om Shivpuri, followed by Manohar
Singh, Ram Gopal Bajaj(Acting Chief), J.N. Kaushal (Acting Chief), Anuradha
Kapur (Acting Chief), and Suresh Sharma,Sagar Kamble, Atul Singhai
(Animation chief).
Today, the Repertory Company, has staged over 120 plays based on the works of
about 70 playwrights and featuring around 50 directors in several countries, and
various cities across the nation, and has its own festival every year, called
Annual Repertory Company Summer Festival, in which it perform new and past
plays. In 2004, the repertory celebrated its 40th anniversary with a theatre
festival in New Delhi
19. Sanskaar Rang Toli (TIE COMPANY)
In 1989 NSD established the „Theatre-in-Education Company‟ (T.I.E), called
'Sanskaar Rang Toli', today it has become India's premier educational resource
centres, and coaches children aged 8 to 16 years. The company regularly performs
plays for school and adults audiences alike, and has its own yearly theatre
festivals, 'Jashn-e-Bachpan' and Bal Sangam
20. Regional Centres
In a bid to decentralize its activities, NSD opened Regional Resource Centres (RRC)
across India, the first of which was opened at Bangalore in 1994.
Bharat Rang Mahotsav
Bharat Rang Mahotsav, or the 'National Theatre Festival', established in 1999, is the
annual theatre festival of National School of Drama (NSD), held in New Delhi, today
it is acknowledged as the largest theatre festival of Asia, dedicated solely to theatre

23. FACILITIES
Workshops - In recent years, NSD under its Extension Programme
organized a series of theatre workshops in the North Eastern States.
Regional Resource Centres - With a view to take the theatre
movement to the grass root level and to make it more accessible to
theatre workers, it was decided to decentralize the Extension Programme
and set up Regional Resource Centres in various zones of the country.
Training - Training in the School is unique in several ways. It is based
on a thorough, comprehensive and carefully-planned syllabus that covers
every aspect of theatre from theory to practice, the results of which are put
to test before a wide audience.

26. MY PERSONAL VIEW ON NSD
There are a multitude of views that come in my mind the moment I enter the premises of
National School of Drama. The assemblage of probably all the modern-day worshipped gods
to the left of the entry gate. Girls practicing rigorously to the tune of their teachers
of Kathak; the mingling of the clasp of hands and trinklets and feet thumping on the ground
still ring in my head. The posters of some of the great plays staged by the NSD Repertory
on the adjoining walls. But passing those, the moment I reached the blown-up plaques at the
entrance, something deep-rooted in this country‟s eon-old culture would stop you; the mask
of Shiva and the Sanskrit shlok speaking of one emotion throughout, passion from within to
all. It felt as if there is a lot that is conspicuously present and absent at the same time. And it
must be explored slowly and fully taking one step at a time.
27. The preparation for the upcoming productions is on the way and the place seems quite busy with
people moving constantly in and out of my frame. There are aspects to be deplored and
questions aplenty. What is it that brings people from the four corners of this country? And what
is it about NSD that makes it NSD? Why theatre over films and why acting in the first place?
“It is a passion, a voice that comes right from the heart and speaks to the world the way it should
be said and heard”
I felt overwhelmed and enjoyed as well as inspired a lot.
29. India Gate
• India gate is a tourist hotspot but more than that it is a social
hub. It stands as an upright figure of freedom.
• Designed by Edwin Lutyens and built in 1931 it was inspired by
the Arc de Triomphe in Paris.
• The purpose of the grand monument was to honor those
90,000 Indian soldiers who died fighting for the British Raj.
• At a closer look the monument bear the name of some of
those soldiers.
• Under the arch of India gate there’s a black shrine known as
Amar Jawan Jyoti which marks an Unknown Army’s Tomb.
• A rifle stands on the Tomb with a helmet on top to pay homage
to the soldiers.

31. PERSONAL EXPERIENCE
(DEEPAK – INDIA GATE)
As I am citizen of INDIA , so I have visited INDIA GATE many times before with
my family , friends and on school trips but only for fun. But this time it was
really exciting visiting INDIA GATE as the purpose behind that was HISTORY
PROJECT.
INDIA GATE is a great monument build in the memory of soldiers. One should
never miss monument like INDIA GATE, when we visited India Gate we had that
feeling of patriotism within us.
Important things at INDIA GATE that I saw were, both things have history
behind them.
AMAR JAWAN JYOTI
THE CANOPY .
STREET foods there were also good . But because of all these stalls there was
garbage in the parks around INDIA GATE.
But except these things we all had a great time there.
33. • Where is Bengali Market :-
• Bengali Market is the oldest market located close to the Connaught
place in the center of New Delhi city.
• HISTORY
The Bengali Market was created in the 1930 by Harish chandra
Lohiya from Moradabad.
He named it “Bengali Mal Market”, after his late father.
He bought the land in an auction in 1938-39 and the market
became operational by 1941-42
. Nathu‟s and Bengali Sweet House were set up at about the same
time.
In the late ‟80s and early ‟90s, Nathu‟s even printed the old name
on its packets, possibly in an attempt to decouple the market‟s
name from its rival.
34. What you will get there:-
Food:
They also serve Indian fast food items such as Chole Bhature,
Rajma Chawal, Dosa along with various other things. The market is
famous for its typical chaat varieties.
Fruits:
Bengali Market is a good place to get some fresh fruits of good
quality, but they are very costly as compared to other places.
Flowers:
You can get a wide variety of flowers.
Other Shops:
The remaining market comprises of dry-cleaners ,photo labs,
chemist, etc.
35. •From my point of view Bengali Market is very good place to
visit.
• The services are extremely good at both Nathu and Bengali
Sweet House.
• I went to Bengali Sweet House and ordered “Channa
Bhatura” and “Jal Jeera”. The cost was very high. With in 15
minutes I got my order and the taste was very good. Channa
Bhatura cost me Rs. 100 tax extra and Jal Jeera was at Rs. 35
tax extra.
Fact is the things are very costly their but Quality is
also maintained.
