The horror genre is not the most popular according to box office statistics. Action, animation, and sci-fi films generated more revenue than horror films in 2015. While horror films made up a decent percentage of overall releases that year, they only accounted for 2.7% of total box office earnings. None of the top 20 highest grossing films of 2015 were in the horror genre, indicating its relative unpopularity compared to other genres.

- 1. How popular is the horror genre? BFI Statistical Yearbook According to this table, the horror genre is not the most popular genre. As we can see the most popular genres ranked by gross box office are Action, Animation and Sci-fi. Horror is quite popular and had a good amount of releases compared to sci fi, even though it has a higher percentage of total box office. The percent age of horror total box office is 2.7% that is pretty low. Also these are the top 20 films for 2015, none of them are of the horror genre. This shows the horror genre is not the most popular genre according to the BFI statistical yearbook. However, when associated with the UK, this genre is more popular than when associated with other countries the US.
