1. BETTER WAYS TO TRAIN OUR MEDICAL STUDENTS
(By E- learning and Teaching)
Dr.T.V.Rao MD
Medical students find it difficult to understand and visualize important concepts and acquire
practical skills because of increasing class strengths, decreasing teacher-student ratio, and limited
practice opportunities. Many may not agree to tell the truth and disagree with me how really we
train our medical students, we started living in comfort Zone to take and make maximum benefit of
our position as suited to Medical Council of India. Compared with degree college teachers we have
least work and many Seniors are not willing take even few classes in a month, However it is the
concern of the governing bodies to regulate the system, many seniors sitting in the board room to
take decisions must have forgotten to take classes, they have lost the contact of the realities of the
teaching and learning process and future needs of the Medical profession , Nothing has changed in
the system for many decades and however it is further degenerating with much mushrooming of the
private Medical colleges, same matters stand with Dental and Nursing graduates it means that we
are creating substandard professionals which will however effect the national productivity, I think
and wish the Medical council of India should come with improving with digital resources which are
plenty to train the Medical students in the basic skills. Many seniors teacher tell, the students should
study themselves without guiding it continues to be grave crisis in the future trends in Medicine, we
cannot blame anyone if we wish to live in the system it is time that we must introduce our students
to e-learning resources as –online has brought about a revolution in the field of education, by
allowing learners 24x7 access to high quality educational material, at a fraction of the cost of
traditional classroom based teaching. It also allows a more personalized learning experience, by
allowing each learner to proceed at their own pace, using the learning style best suited to their
needs. This, paradoxically, reduces the time required by learners to understand concepts – a
phenomenon known as learning compression. E-learning has also been shown to enhance learners’
ability to apply the knowledge gained, and to retain information for longer periods. The students
engaged in E-learning activities will be able to construct their own knowledge through self-directed
learning. Eventually performance of the students may increase by implementation of E-learning at
various medical colleges in India. The MBBS-Phase I and phase II students can be benefited by using
advanced E - learning technologies, like power point presentations, video demonstrations and video
recording of classroom teaching as well, which are made available to students even after the lecture
classes via E-learning portal through intra net facilities and Internet. E-learning technology is a
gateway to new experiences, which offers a never before imagined learning opportunity to all
medical students of developing countries like India in particular. The emerging cutting-edge
technology in computers, leading to frequent the interface between educational technology and
medical sciences is integral and symbiotic. Innovations in-learning technologies point toward a
revolution in education, allowing adaptive and collaborative learning by the learners and
transforming the role of the teacher. The advent of information technology and communication (ICT)
leads to significant developments in the field of health and have different impacts on Professional
practice, the experience of patients, management and organization of health systems. In many
private colleges should utilize the resources from dedicated institution like CMC Vellore till they
achieve their goals The E-Learning database contains different types of learning resources. Teachers
can directly upload their lecture slides/presentations on the E-learning site using their log-in
credentials and rights, and students can access lecture presentations, download them onto their
computers, or print them out as lecture hand-outs. Several videos related to patient examination are
available on E-learning to enrich student learning, and students can assess their comprehension of
2. the subject matter through interactive quizzes. As students learn, they can store their study notes on
line, and save flash cards with relevant facts to aid in topic review at a later date. The portal also
posts the class schedule, announcements, instructions, assignments, and discussion forums for
students. Since E-learning is available on the Internet, it is easy for faculty to manage course content
either from work or home. One of the highlights of the portal is its accessibility through handheld
devices, with facilities for live streaming of videos on the e-learning server; thus helping students
learn interactively. Online tests are conducted for some students via e-learning. (Just learn how Dr
Sudheer Kher my friend and website creator of www.medmicrobes.com training Microbiology
undergraduates) with help of computers. This simplifies both the conduct and correction of the test
as both are instantaneous; besides saving huge amounts of paper. The E-learning unit also regularly
solicits student feedback in order to improve on existing teaching-learning strategies. I wish many
medical Professional to reach to FEATURES OF CMC’S VELLORE E-LEARNING PORTAL ACADEMIC
SCHEDULE find how matters are changing in the world around us, we can get connected with
agreement on copyright agreement can be explored and we can change the students learn and
perform for the betterment of the profession. The integration of clinical and non-clinical topics is
another major challenge. E-Learning products such as Clinical Learning, launched by Elsevier, serve
the students by clearing important and difficult concepts along with giving enough exposure towards
practical skills it is a one stop solution that caters to both practical as well as clinical needs of
students. It also allows them to access and review credible and interactive modules anytime at a
self-controlled pace With greater emphasis on the use of ICT-based education practices by the
government and regulatory bodies, medical education in India is set to adopt technology-driven
learning in a big way, I WISH MANY TEACHERS AGREE WITH ME FOR CHANGE TEACHERS HAVE
GREATER ROLE TO MANY WONDERS AVAILABLE IN THIS WORLD NEVER FORGET INFORMATION
COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY WILL RULE THE WORLD OF MEDICINE WE HAVE NO WAY BUT FALL
IN LINE ? My students and Dear Teachers knowledge at your fingertips Try to do it?
