Radical is an autobiographical account of Maajid Nawaz's journey from religious extremism to peace. As a teenager, Nawaz joined an Islamist group and became a top recruiter, but was imprisoned in Egypt after 9/11. During his imprisonment, he was exposed to the assassins of Anwar Sadat and began to question his extremist beliefs. After being released four years later, Nawaz was convinced his views had been wrong and founded Quilliam to combat rising Islamist extremism using his knowledge of recruitment tactics. The book provides insight into how one man evolved from fervent religious beliefs to a more moderate view.
