Prayer in Islam consists of physical positions accompanied by recitations from the Quran. The positions include standing with hands at the sides or over the heart, bowing with hands on knees, prostrating with forehead, hands, knees and toes touching the ground. Each position provides physical, mental and spiritual benefits such as relaxing muscles, focusing the mind, improving blood flow and cleansing toxins. Prayer unites the higher and lower centers of the brain and purifies the body, mind and soul.
