This document compares Dorothy Johnson's Behavioral System Model and Callista Roy's Adaptation Model of nursing. Johnson proposed her behavioral model in 1968 to advocate for fostering efficient patient functioning to prevent illness. Roy introduced Adaptation Nursing in 1964 with the goal of directing nursing education, practice, and research. Both models view the person as a system interacting with their environment. However, Johnson's model focuses on maintaining balance of behavioral subsystems while Roy's model emphasizes supporting the patient's adaptation process.
