Self-Selection: An Agile Approach to Forming Teams @ ScaleEm Campbell-Pretty
Presented at Agile Israel 2017.
When it comes to shaping agile teams many organisations use a leader decides model. The design of the teams is often a very delicate balancing act. Skills, experience, subject matter expertise and personalities all need to be factored in and the end result is often less than ideal.
So what if we took a different approach? What if we let the people who are going to be in the teams decide for themselves which mix of skills, experience, subject matters expertise and personalities are going to work best?
In this session you will learn how Sandy Mamoli & David Mole's approach to self-selection (aka Squadification) has been used at one of Australia's largest banks to empower people to choose who they work with.
This warts and all tale from the trenches will arm you to attempt your own self-secretion workshop, using proven techniques that have even been applied as part of launching a SAFe Agile Release Train.
A totally reworked version of my Project Management presentations focusing on agile adoption. Not sure the slides are all that helpful without the audio but enjoy!

Presentation at Mastering SAP 21st May 2017
Struggling with agile at scale? Thinking about scaling agile beyond the team? Want to learn from others’ mistakes? There is a lot to be learnt from those who have successfully hitchhiked their way through the galaxy of scaled agile. This session celebrates the scaled agile hitchhiker, the people who bravely tried ideas that were occasionally brilliant but often plain stupid. You will laugh, you will cry but you will also walk away with a nice long list of ideas not to try when scaling agile!
• Seven failure patterns in scaling agile
• An understanding of why these patterns lead to less than optimal results
• Tips on how to avoid falling into these failure patterns
Most organizations test their products and services as part of their UX design process, but many of them dismiss the most impactful results. Project teams often lack the flexibility to deal with test results, and decision-makers don't believe that those results need to be dealt with. This introduces unnecessary risk to the user experience and success of any product or service. This slidedeck exemplifies this risk and shows how to get project teams and decision-makers on board with test results.
Agile Transformation is broken. It emphasizes development teams, individuals, and organizations moving from one state to another - devoid of the human element that creates the momentum and frictions to change.
How might we - engineers, developers, testers, analysts, designers, and other team members - co-facilitate change towards self-organization through experimentation? How do we - Scrum Masters, line managers, and executives - manage the system and not the people? How can the organization build psychological safety within constraints?

I came across the SAMR model as part of my studies and while it did seem like a great model to adopt, I realised that the peer reviewed literature I came across on it all seemed to cite Dr Ruben Puentedura's blog instead of a peer reviewed piece of literature by him.

b. They have the wrong features for the right problem.
More Importantly - They make the right features too complicated to use or understand.

Forget Culture Build an experimentation Ecosystem.pdfVWO
For years, CRO specialists have been trying to get greater awareness and engagement for their testing and experimentation efforts but have kept falling short.
The most common complaint from CROs is about lack of engagement.
From observing the industry closely over the last 10 years, Manuel da Costa (Founder at Effective Experiments) has come up with a potential way forward.
Dropping the aim of ‘building a culture of experimentation’, which relies on the CRO doing the bulk of the work of evangelizing and promoting experimentation. Instead, viewing this as an organizational change and building an ecosystem for experimentation to thrive in.
In this webinar, you will learn about the industry challenges he has seen and why they happen (and most likely nod your head to). You will learn the key concepts of what goes into building an ecosystem of experimentation, the key ingredients and people needed to make this happen and what impact that change can have on your business.
Why Most eLearning Fails: How to Create eLearning that Gets ResultsAggregage
Let’s admit it: most eLearning just plain sucks! The sad reality is that most eLearning courses require learners to sit through a disappointing experience, where information is poorly organized, the content isn’t relevant, and the interactions seem contrived and without purpose. This is compounded even more when the slideshow-like presentation is interrupted with several poorly written quiz questions and cheesy animations to make it all seem “fun.”
In this session, we will explore many of the reasons why most eLearning fails and the components that contribute to bad eLearning design. we will also explore how bad eLearning design can negatively affect the learning experience. Finally, this session will walk you through several practical methods you can immediately apply to fix your bad eLearning courses.
In this session, you will learn:
• When to implement a blended learning approach
• Why clicking doesn’t make interactivity meaningful
• Why good eLearning requires more than instructional design
• Why knowledge and behavior aren’t mutually exclusive
Language Development Through StorytellingMrMacnology
Language development is an ongoing process for everyone. While we may work with English Language Learners, all of our students can benefit from effective English Language Development strategies. One of the most natural ways to learn a language is through conversation and storytelling. And fortunately, we all have a story to tell, but sometimes our students struggle to tell that story. Many students, including language learners, lack the skill sets or vocabulary to effectively share their learning. There are simple yet empowering strategies that can be used every day to help them set their stories free.
These slides came from a presentation I did at OAtS in Portland, OR on October 18, 2013. The presentation is based on discussions (presentations) from Will Richardson and Alec Couros. I have cited specifically which slides I've borrowed from Will. The desire to present on this subject matter came from a session that Will led at ISTE13 which can be found here: http://www.slideshare.net/willrich45/iste13
While none of these messages or ideas are my own or originate from my own brain, I find them to be extremely important and part of a larger discussion we all should be having around change and reform in education.
I appreciate Will's willingness to share his ideas and slides so we can continue this discussion all across the country.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202
