IDENTIFICATION Bed bugs are oval, reddish brown insects with a flattened profile from top to bottom. Adult bed bugs measure about 1/4 inch in length. They are similar in appearance to a wood tick.

After mating, females lay white, oval eggs (1/16 inch) into cracks and crevices. Female bed bugs lay 3-7 eggs per day.  For a year, this totals about 200-500.
 
The eggs are coated with a sticky substance that causes them to adhere onto any surface Eggs hatch in 6-10 days Newly emerged bed bugs immediately seek a blood meal
WHAT TO LOOK FOR Fecal Matter Small dark spots usually found in large amounts where bed bugs congregate.  Small amounts could be found on sheets and pillows.
WHAT TO LOOK FOR Blood Spots Usually no bigger than a dime, can be found on sheets and pillows.
WHAT TO LOOK FOR Shed Exoskeletons Bed bug skins usually found around the edges of mattresses or on the floor.  Bed bugs shed their skin 5 times before reaching adulthood.
