And making It in IT
Making What in IT?
Making it in IT, which in simple terms, means being as good as
you can be at the job and being a role model for it. But which
job?
There are many reasons for choosing, or perhaps falling into
IT and I am not privy to them at all. Mine was of the “fall”
variety after graduation.

Computer Science World
Computer science (CS) is a more esoteric subject than general
IT and has it’s place in the IT universe. However, a CS
graduate entering the normal IT world will probably need to
adapt to some of the topics and disciplines outlined in this
discuss. IT people making the reverse trip may be interested
in a typical syllabus for a CS course, as outlined below
● Fundamentals of Computing
● Fundamentals of computer engineering
● Fundamentals of artificial intelligence (AI)
● Fundamentals of computer architecture
● Fundamentals of distributed systems
● Fundamentals of databases
● Object-oriented programming
● Cognitive topics
● Logic and Modeling
● Processor microarchitecture
● Algorithms and imperative programming
● Computer graphics and image processing
● Distributed computing
● Computer networks
● Mobile systems
● Cognitive neuroscience
● Cognitive computing in other areas
● Concurrence and process architecture
● Natural language systems
● Other subjects

People refer to human aspects: skills,
level of competence, initiative, etc.
Process means the flow of activity
around business activity using IT,
which includes systems management
and management methods
Products encompass the technology
aspect of IT projects (hardware and
software) and is part of the trinity of
factors in any IT tasks, except perhaps
emergency system repairs and the
like. People who speak only of
technology when tackling IT jobs are
deluding themselves and possibly
others.
The 3Ps of IT Universe
So then...(the ball in your court)
What do you think future of IT holds for
you?
World Class Engineer
Be the best you can be...
The best way to prepare [to be a programmer] is to write
programs, and to study great programs that other people
have written. In my case, I went to the garbage cans at the
Computer science center and fished out listings of their
operating system
- Bill Gates, Microsoft co-founder
The most difficult part of a process is
converting 0 to 1 - turning on the
switch, thereafter, the light shines on
your path.
Great thing start from little beginning,
growing up to achieve your higher
dreams.
Dream big, but start small...
Get Started…
Yes you should start where you are!!!
Choose a path, thread on it, gather
loads of energy to overcome
obstacles.
Move as fast as you can, if you fall, get
up on your feet with renewed energy
while you learn from others.
Focus on a field, be good at
it and be known for it...
Be Consistent…
In diversity, deepen your root and spread your
tentacles
Have a mentor in your chosen field,
discuss regularly for clearer direction.
Join online forums that clearly defined
on your path and participate.
Good judgement comes
from bad judgement...
Seek a Mentor…
Learn from others so you don’t make same mistakes
I was lucky to be in my early 20s when the digital revolution
was just getting under way, and Paul Allen and I had the
chance to help shape it.
If I were starting out today and looking for the same kind of
opportunity to change the world, I will still go into IT.
- Bill Gates
