The BBFC examines films and videos before release to assign age ratings that help protect children from unsuitable content and inform consumers. Typically, two examiners will view a film together and award a rating, with a senior examiner confirming. If uncertain, other examiners may also view. They consider issues like discrimination, drugs, horror, language, nudity, sex, and violence. Ratings include U (ages 4+), PG, 12A (under 12 with adult), 15 (under 15), and 18 (adults only). Higher ratings allow increasingly strong language, violence, sexual content and themes.
