THE GOVERNMENT OF THE JUKTO
FRONT
1.Zukto front an alliance of the opposite parties to
contest - in the elections to the east Bengal Legistative
assembly held between 8-12 March,1954.
2.The result was a comprehensive victory for the alliance
or front composed mainly of four parties or east Bengal
namely Awami Legue,Krishak Sramik Party,Nizam-E-
Islam and ganatantri Dal.
3.In fact, the Zukto Front reflected of all shades of
political spectrum in the province emerged mainly due to
the failure of the Muslim League as a rulling party and
other historical political and economic reasons.
4. Importantly;however, the election result was a signal to the
end of the dominance of the national elite in the politics of
the East Bengal.
5. A vast majority of the elected members were new, relatively
young and experienced in government and politics.
6. The architects of the Zukto front Victory in the East Bengal
were the triumvirate,AK Fazlul Huq,Huseyn Shaheed
Suhrawardy, and Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhasani, and it
was most likely that the chisma of each of them influenced
voters much.
