Baycrest's IT department went through a transformation to become an industry leader by focusing on four key areas: 1. Building community confidence by stabilizing their network, increasing staff skills, implementing helpdesk best practices, and becoming a model for user support. 2. Building their strategy through a gap analysis, investigating best practices and emerging technologies, and creating an IT steering committee. 3. Building strategic partnerships with vendors, staff, and other institutions to synergize and achieve goals more quickly. 4. Building their infrastructure by standardizing desktops, adding remote access, upgrading key systems, and creating a state-of-the-art data center with new contamination procedures adopted by NASA and IEEE.
