The Dark Knight is a 2008 British-American superhero film directed, produced,
and cowritten by Christopher Nolan. Based on the DC Comics character
Batman, the film is the second part of Nolan's Batman film series and a sequel
to 2005’s Batman Begins. Christian Bale reprises the lead role of Bruce
Wayne/Batman, with a returning cast of Michael Caine as Alfred Pennyworth,
Gary Oldman as James Gordon and Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox. The film
introduces the character of Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart), Gotham's newly
elected District Attorney and the consort of Bruce Wayne's childhood friend
Rachel Dawes (Maggie Gyllenhaal replacing Katie Holmes from the first film),
who joins Batman and the police in combating the new rising threat of a
criminal mastermind calling himself "The Joker" (Heath Ledger).
•Costume is tracksuits/simple suits and clown masks for the
robbers smarter suits for people in the bank to show the different
lifestyle they both have.
•Natural light day time to contrast that the joker is more of a
smiley person and is always laughing just like people would when
the sun is out in the daytime. Daylight robbery to show that they
are not scared about what people see them doing.
•Unoriginal movements (the joker) has confident body language
and also has an angry tone for robbers to make people feel the
fear of being robbed
•basic make up for all the characters except the joker which has
messy make up all over his face to make him more crazy and
threatening.
• guns, cars and tools are the props used in the opening to show
the threatening factor of the character.
Camera Shots
•Throughout the opening there are invisible fast cuts which
helps keep the tempo of the scene and the action flowing.
•Also they do a close up on the clown mask to show that
people will feel threatened about this.
•Panning shot helps to establish where the scene is taking
place.
•When the two criminals are in the high rise building this
shows an establishing shot to where the film is taking place
Sound
•Diagetic:
•Glass shattering – the glass shattering is the sound that everyone expected to
hear because the two criminals were working on the window for a period of
time.
•Zip line – the sound of the zip line shows the tension of what is going to
happen as you can hear the sound over the music which is already quite loud
•Engines – car engines sound shows how the criminals planned to start and
depart from the robbery.
•Dialogue – the voices of the criminals suggest that they are not happy and
very demanding about cash division.
•Gun Shots – the first gun shot is silenced to make sure nobody hears what’s
going on. The second gun shot is not silenced as nobody is around. The third
gun shot has multiple shots and is really loud as they have achieved what they
wanted which was take over the bank so now they don’t care who hears.
•Non diagetic:
• Music – the music used in the opening scene is to show tension and
suspense.
