This presentation is on the importance of Barbara Gittings and Kay Tobin Lahusen's forty-eight years of lesbian activism that has influenced the LGBTQ community.
Rosa Parks was an African American seamstress who refused to give up her bus seat to a white passenger in Montgomery, Alabama in 1955. Her act of defiance led to the Montgomery Bus Boycott and the formation of the Montgomery Improvement Association. The 381-day boycott eventually led to the Supreme Court declaring segregation on public buses illegal. Rosa Parks became an icon of the Civil Rights Movement and resistance to racial segregation. She worked as an activist with the NAACP to fight for equal rights and a society without racial barriers.
This document provides background information on Michael Hames-Garcia, an author and professor who writes about race, identity, and incarceration in the United States. It outlines his education and publications. The introduction discusses Hames-Garcia's intention to clarify different scholarly positions on beliefs and theories about race. He considers approaches that view racial identity as a problem rather than a solution, and discusses theorists like Wendy Brown, Walter Benn Michaels, Anibal Quijano, and Manuel Castells. Hames-Garcia ultimately argues that while race exists socially and psychologically, it also has real material and economic impacts due to the legacy of racism.

The document provides an agenda for a class including presentations on the 1980s and discussions of racism and homophobia in the LGBT community, followed by questions from students on these topics and an introduction to author Leslie Feinberg, who wrote the acclaimed novel Stone Butch Blues and has been an activist for transgender and minority rights.
PRIDE is commemorated every June to honor the 1969 Stonewall riots in New York City, when patrons and supporters of the Stonewall Inn staged an uprising to resist the police harassment and persecution to which LGBTQ+ Americans were commonly subjected. This uprising marked the beginning of a movement to outlaw discriminatory laws and practices against LGBTQ+ Americans.
This year, I am celebrating PRIDE by sharing bits of our rich history. Every day this month, I will post a series of profiles highlighting LGBTQ+ icons who have made significant contributions to society. Take a moment to learn about these scientists, artists, athletes, activists, business and political leaders whose stories inspire me to live authentically and to continue the fight for equity and justice, every day.
Happy PRIDE 2020!
This document provides an agenda and notes for an ELIT 10 Class 15 on the topic of C C. The agenda includes a make-up exam, changing student teams, a presentation on the 1970s focusing on LGBTQ+ history, and a discussion of the book "The Front Runner" and student questions about it. GLBTQ patrons still matter (April 2012)Liesl Seborg
Times may be changing quickly for the GLBTQ population in the media, but things are moving so much slower on the home front. Our GLBTQ Patrons are still struggling to find support and information in our communities—both big and small. Did you know that the 2000 census showed that same-sex couples live in 99% of all U.S. counties and that 20-40% of homeless teens identify themselves as LGBTQ? This session will provide: an overview of current research and needs of GLBTQ patrons; promoting your collection; handling challenges; and basic competencies for GLBTQ patron service. Presented at Utah library Association Annual Conference April 27, 2012
The document discusses the evolution of the US civil rights movement from the 1950s to the 1960s, from a focus on non-violent protest to the rise of more militant tactics. In the 1950s, civil rights activists employed non-violent strategies like boycotts, sit-ins, and legal challenges. However, as violence from white supremacists increased, some activists began advocating for self-defense and black empowerment. Events like the lynching of Mack Charles Parker in 1959 contributed to the growing black power movement of the 1960s led by figures like Robert F. Williams and Huey Newton who embraced more confrontational approaches.
This document discusses censorship and challenged books. It defines challenged books as those a person has attempted to remove from libraries/schools due to objections, while banned books have been successfully removed. Common reasons for challenges are language, sexual/racist content, violence, or religious/political differences. The American Library Association collects data on challenged books and observes Banned Books Week each year to promote freedom of expression and access to information.
This document discusses queer theory and its key concepts. It defines queer theory as attempting to redefine sexual identity and preference in order to find a space where homosexuality is seen as normal. It notes that queer theory interrogates how sexuality and identity are constructed. Some basic tenets discussed are that gender and sexuality are socially constructed rather than biological. The document also provides brief overviews of lesbian and gay criticism as well as gay and lesbian literature and history.
Queer theory is a field of critical theory that emerged in the early 1990s out of the fields of queer studies and women's studies. Queer theory includes both queer readings of texts and the theorization of 'queerness' itself.[clarify] Heavily influenced by the work of Lauren Berlant, Leo Bersani, Judith Butler, Lee Edelman, Jack Halberstam,[1] and Eve Kosofsky Sedgwick, queer theory builds both upon feminist challenges to the idea that gender is part of the essential self and upon gay/lesbian studies' close examination of the socially constructed nature of sexual acts and identities.

LAND USE LAND COVER AND NDVI OF MIRZAPUR DISTRICT, UPRAHUL
This Dissertation explores the particular circumstances of Mirzapur, a region located in the
core of India. Mirzapur, with its varied terrains and abundant biodiversity, offers an optimal
environment for investigating the changes in vegetation cover dynamics. Our study utilizes
advanced technologies such as GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and Remote sensing to
analyze the transformations that have taken place over the course of a decade.
The complex relationship between human activities and the environment has been the focus
of extensive research and worry. As the global community grapples with swift urbanization,
population expansion, and economic progress, the effects on natural ecosystems are becoming
more evident. A crucial element of this impact is the alteration of vegetation cover, which plays a
significant role in maintaining the ecological equilibrium of our planet.Land serves as the foundation for all human activities and provides the necessary materials for
these activities. As the most crucial natural resource, its utilization by humans results in different
'Land uses,' which are determined by both human activities and the physical characteristics of the
land.
The utilization of land is impacted by human needs and environmental factors. In countries
like India, rapid population growth and the emphasis on extensive resource exploitation can lead
to significant land degradation, adversely affecting the region's land cover.
Therefore, human intervention has significantly influenced land use patterns over many
centuries, evolving its structure over time and space. In the present era, these changes have
accelerated due to factors such as agriculture and urbanization. Information regarding land use and
cover is essential for various planning and management tasks related to the Earth's surface,
providing crucial environmental data for scientific, resource management, policy purposes, and
diverse human activities.
Accurate understanding of land use and cover is imperative for the development planning
of any area. Consequently, a wide range of professionals, including earth system scientists, land
and water managers, and urban planners, are interested in obtaining data on land use and cover
changes, conversion trends, and other related patterns. The spatial dimensions of land use and
cover support policymakers and scientists in making well-informed decisions, as alterations in
these patterns indicate shifts in economic and social conditions. Monitoring such changes with the
help of Advanced technologies like Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems is
crucial for coordinated efforts across different administrative levels. Advanced technologies like

This plaque is to recognize and honor Barbara Gittings and Kay Lahusen’s
forty-six years of lesbian activism. Their works greatly impacted the LGBTQ+
community. As lesbian women, they put their determination to fight for equal
rights by fighting against institutions that oppressed homosexuals. Both
Gittings and Lahusen’s activism is responsible for the changes made on the
American Psychiatry Association from no longer considering homosexuality as
a mental illness and on the American Library Association from no longer
categorizing homosexuality under sexual perversion. Both lesbian women
deserve to be honored for putting their ambition through non-violent activism.
Their contribution with The Ladder united and lesbian women and channeled
empowerment and a voice, as well as making the word “lesbian” no longer
unspeakable.
