Giuseppe Moscati was a physician born in Italy in 1880 who dedicated his life to helping the poor and less fortunate through his medical practice. He worked tirelessly as a doctor, professor, and researcher. During times of crisis like natural disasters and epidemics, he went above and beyond the call of duty to care for patients. Though coming from an aristocratic background and educated in both traditional and modern schools of medicine, he was a humble servant to others. For his extraordinary compassion and charitable works, Giuseppe Moscati was canonized as a saint by the Catholic Church in 1987.

3. INTRODUCTION
There once was a man named Giuseppe Moscati.
He was born and raised in Italy. One day his
brother fell off a horse and suffered head
trauma. After observing the treatments his
brother was receiving, Giuseppe soon was
interested in medicine. He went to school and
then decided to become a doctor.

4. HISTORY
Giuseppe was born on July 25 th, 1880
He was born into a good family. His father a
lawyer and mother a noble.
He was a medical doctor, a layman, a professor
and biochemist.

5. CONTRIBUTIONS
Giuseppe was a pioneer in the field of
biochemistry and a wonderful professor. He was
well-known for his work and contributions to
science but he is by far most well known by his
contribution to others.
Giuseppe was a kind-hearted individual who
helped the less fortunate. Being born into an
aristocratic family Giuseppe did not have to
help these people but chose to. He did not charge
them and gave them pills and money too.

During the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 1906
Giuseppe went and evacuated a nursing home in
the endangered area. He personally moved the
frail and infirm patients to safety minutes
before the roof of the building collapsed.
In 1911 during the cholera epidemic he went
above and beyond. Giuseppe treated some 3,000
soldiers during World War I.

8. UNIQUE
It is very unusual to hear of a person who went to a
traditional school, a modern one of that, to become
canonized. Not only that, his focus of science and
medicine isn’t usually honored for sainthood. Giuseppe
was a unique case. He showed that a person raised under
science can also be spiritual and have as much love and
faith as anyone else. Giuseppe’s role is extraordinary. He
gave his whole heart to his profession and helping others.
He deserves to be a Saint. Reading about him is very
inspiring and uplifting. I love seeing how so much good
can blossom anywhere.

10. HE IS A SAINT
Giuseppe was beatified in 1975 and declared a
saint, canonized by Pope John Paul II in 1987
during the synod of bishops on the laity. His
feast day is November 16.
