St. Julian the Hospitaller is a Roman Catholic saint who, according to a popular medieval story, was of noble birth and while hunting killed his parents after mistaking them for intruders in his home. Overcome with remorse, he fled and built an inn and hospital near a river to care for travelers and the poor. Through helping a leper, he was forgiven for his crime. St. Julian is the patron saint of hotel keepers, travelers, and boatmen.
