Live Beyond The Edge Of Reason
The Bards
uneet Puri was hooked to a life in the outdoors ever
since her father took her rock climbing at the age of 5.
Trekking and climbing have been a passion with her
and she has been trekking the Uttarakhand Himalayas since her
school days. She has also trekked in Nepal. She is something of
a dare devil and to challenge herself she often treks solo.
G
hashi Bahuguna has been an avid trekker and climber
most of her life. She is almost a mountain goat, having
grown up in a Kamouni Village and having spent her
childhood in the arms of the mountains. She met Anusha and
Guneet on an expedition in the Himalayas. She too treks solo or
Alpine style when the mood takes her. She is also a trained
rescuer.
S
nusha Subramanian, an award winning journalist,
started her trekking career in the Sayadri ranges at
the tender age of 7 and had covered most of it by the
time she reached her teens. She started walking the Himalayas in
2006 and has trekked across all 5 Himalayan states. She has also
trekked extensively abroad.
A
The Bohemian Way
ur philosophy with regards to BA is simple, "of the
mountains, for the mountains and by the mountains".
We view the mountains as our home and as we do what
we do best here, climb and trek, we also aim to give back to our
home by providing a sustainable economic scenario to its
residents.
As far as possible we try to provide our clients a glimpse into the
lives of the mountain folk, their culture and traditions with home
stays along our trek routes.
Our vision for the years to come includes the promotion of women
in the sport of mountaineering both as team leaders and guides.
We also hope to lead by example by having stricter and more
stringent safety and environmental guidelines implemented in the
Himalayas.

The Trek
A Path to the Mystical and Elusive Nanda Devi Sanctuary
Bagini Glacier lies inside the bounds of the famed Nanda Devi Sanctuary. For
years and years this land lay in a shroud of mystery and just out of reach of all
who dared explore its inviting paths. Nanda Devi, a majestic mountain that
beckons all who behold her, kept her secrets hidden for many a year. It took Eric
Shipton and Bill Tillman neigh about 17 years to find a route up to her lofty
summit. Owing mostly to the fact that the mountain is surrounded by a ring of
mountains higher than 20,000 feet on all sides. However, with perseverance came
the reward of the mountain permitting these two exploring mountaineers to
stand at her feet.
Jumma –Runing Village
The three kilometre walk from the road head to the first camp site leads you
through a lush forest and a slightly steep ascent that starts as soon as you cross
the Dhauliganga. However, this is a short trek and is easily accomplished in a
couple of hours. There is an option here to either camp at the Ruing Village or to
carry on to a camp site 3 km further along the route to Dhronagiri.
Runing Village to Dhronagiri
The initial part of this day’s trail is similar to that of the path from Jumma to
Ruing Village. The biggest hurdle and adventure of the day will be crossing a
rather large landslide area that blocks your path further. Once negotiated the
path then becomes akin to a bugyal (high altitude meadow) . The final ascent to
Dhronagiri is almost always completely dotted with a carpet of flowers. Once at
Dhronagiri you will also get your first glimpse of the Hathi and Ghori Parvats.
Dhronagiri to Bagini Base Camp
After a few kilometres of a meandering trail you will start seeing the first signs of
the terminal moraine of the Bagini Glacier. Most of the walk this day all the way
up to the Base Camp will be through and on moraine (an area surrounding a
glacier littered with boulders that is debris deposited by a glacier over millions of
years.
The Trek
Bagini Base Camp – Bagini Glacier - Changbang Base Camp – Bagini Base Camp
This day’s walk will be long and a little strenuous owing partly to the gaining
altitude and also partly to the terrain that needs to be manoeuvred. In order to
reach the Changbang Base Camp in time for the magnificent sunrise atop the
Changbang peak you must start your trek well before dawn. The pre dawn
temperatures will be cold given the proximity to the glacier, however, the views
afforded once you reach your destination are more than a sufficient reward for
the hardship endured. You will also witness up close what a moving frozen river
sounds like. You will walk on the glacier itself and also view the awe instilling
natural phenomenon known as a crevasse .
From the Changbang Base Camp you will have views of some of the most breath
taking mountains in this region of the Garwhal Himalayas. Some of the
mountains viewed include Hathi (6507m), Dunagiri East (7066m), Trishuli
(7057m), Hardeul (7323m) and of course Changabang (7174m).
