1. Word Processing             Program that allows you to create, edit and print
                               documents.
2. Spreadsheet                 Numbered rows and lettered columns.

3. Database                    Lets you set up an electronic filing systems.

4. Utility                     Helps perform housekeeping chores.

5. Application Software        Program that works with OS software to help you use
                               the computer to do certain tasks.
6. System Software             Groups of programs that coordinate and control the
                               resources and operations of a computer.
7. Integrated Software         Combines 7 software applications into one program.

8. Desktop Publishing          Uses pictures and words to give the ability to create
                               documents.
9. Communications              Works with modems or other network hardware to
                               connect you to other computers.
10. Multimedia                 Combines text, audio, animation, and video.

11. Input Devices              Hardware that allows you to communicate with the
                               computer.
12. Output Devices             Hardware that allows the computer to communicate
                               with the user.
13. Magnetic Storage Devices   As the disk rotates in the computer, an
                               electromagnetic read/write head stores or
                               retrieves data in circles called tracks.
14. Hard Disk Drive            Used to store data in the computer.

15. Floppy Disk                Flat circles of iron oxide-coated plastic enclosed
                               in a hard plastic case.
16. Zip Disk                   Capable of storing tremendous amounts of
                               information.
17. Magnetic Tape Drives       Used to make backup copies for large volumes of data.
18. Optical Discs              Uses laser technology to read and write data.

19. CD-ROM                     Can store up to 800 MB.

20. DVD                        Size of regular CD and DVD and played in a regular
                               CD or DVD player.
21. Operating System           Provides interference between users or application
                               programs and the computer hardware.
22. Graphical User Interface   Graphical symbols represent files and other objects.

23. Proper Computer Care Keep any type of food or drink away from the
                         computer.
                         -avoid dusty locations.
                         -keep magnets away.
                         -DON’T BLOCK VENTS ON CPU.
24. Proper Diskette Care Don’t remove disk while drive is running or light is on.
                         -keep disk in cover that is in a clean, cool, and dry
                         place.
                         -avoid hot and cold locations.
25. Proper CD ROM Care   Avoid touching backside of the CD to avoid scratches.
                         -Make backup copies of files.
                         -Insert into CD ROM Drive properly facing up.
26. Proper Printer Care  Avoid cold, hot, and dusty places.
                         -NEVER pull paper out while in motion.
27. How to Maintain your Start a log of information on your system.
