The Aztec diet was rich, spicy, and centered around corn and chili peppers. Their staple food was the tlaxcalli, a corn pancake that they wrapped meats and vegetables in to make tacos. The Aztecs hunted game like deer, duck, and dog for meat and also consumed beans, squash, tomatoes, and avocados. Chocolate was a favorite treat of wealthy Aztecs, though it was typically consumed as a chocolate drink. Another common beverage was octli, made from maguey plant juice.
