According to the ITU, the Internet of Things is defined as a global infrastructure for the information society, enabling advanced services by interconnecting (physical and virtual) things based on existing and evolving interoperable information and communication technologies.
Such a phenomenal infrastructure, demands strong skills, and presents large opportunities for the AWS Ecosystem. With our customers in mind, we will have AWS Principal Business Development Manager - Mark Relph, presenting IoT Case Studies and the AWS IoT Platform.
AWS IoT is a managed cloud platform that allows connected IoT devices to easily and securely interact with cloud applications and other devices. In this session, we will discuss how constrained devices can leverage the AWS IoT service to send data to the cloud and receive commands back to the device using the protocol of their choice. We will discuss how devices can connect securely using MQTT and HTTP protocols, and how developers and businesses can leverage the AWS IoT Rules Engine, Thing Shadows, and accelerate prototype development using AWS IoT Device SDKs. Finally, we will cover new features released since the launch of AWS IoT including integration with Amazon Machine Learning and Amazon ElasticSearch Service.

Join us for AWS IoT day at the AWS San Francisco Loft. AWS IoT enables you to easily connect and manage millions of devices securely. You can gather data from, run sophisticated analytics on, and take actions in real-time on your diverse fleet of IoT devices from edge to the cloud. You will build IoT applications with AWS IoT experts. AWS IoT provides edge-based software and cloud-based services so you can easily build IoT applications. Edge-based software, including AWS Greengrass, enables you to securely connect devices, gather data and take intelligent actions locally even when Internet connectivity is down. Cloud-based services, including AWS IoT Core, allow you to quickly onboard large and diverse fleets, maintain fleet health, and keep fleets secure.
The Essentials of AWS IoT Device Management (IOT326-R1) - AWS re:Invent 2018Amazon Web Services
In this session, learn how to use AWS IoT Device Management to onboard and manage devices at scale. We discuss a customer use case, provide a demo, and share best practices to solve the fleet management challenges that you may be facing.
The Getting Started on AWS deck serves to introduce Amazon users and prospective customers to the Amazon VPC, EC2 and the concepts and components that are necessary building Fault Tolerant & High Available environments on AWS. It also serves to introduce services like Direct Connect, Router53 (Amazon DNS Service) and one of our new additions, the Amazon
Application Load Balancer (ALB). After perusing this deck, users should have a better understanding of what these services are and their propose benefits.

Introduction to AWS Cloud Computing | AWS Public Sector Summit 2016Amazon Web Services
Amazon Web Services (AWS) provides on-demand computing resources and services in the cloud, with pay-as-you-go pricing. This session provides an overview and describes how using AWS resources instead of your own is like purchasing electricity from a power company instead of running your own generator. Using AWS resources provides many of the same benefits as a public utility: Capacity exactly matches your need, you pay only for what you use, economies of scale result in lower costs, and the service is provided by a vendor experienced in running large-scale networks. A high-level overview of AWS’s infrastructure (such as AWS Regions and Availability Zones) and AWS services is provided as part of this session.

This is a presentation given at the Capital Saratoga Region AWS User Group on May 18, 2017 at The Troy Innovation Garage in Troy, NY.

Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software FuzzingAftab Hussain
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.

● Network of physical objects (devices, vehicles, home appliances)
● Embedded with sensors, software, connectivity
● Accessible via the cloud through the Internet infrastructure
6. ● “Finger on the pulse” of traditionally hard to measure objects
● Collect and analyze data automatically, at scale
○ Reveal unseen patterns
○ Faster reaction to events
● Economical
○ Low cost hardware and sensors
○ Ubiquitous connectivity
● Growing Industry
○ 26B IoT devices by 2020
○ $3.7B total market size by 2020
Why IoT
12. Gateway
● Edge system to connect Things to the Cloud
● Localized connectivity
○ WiFi, BLE, Private LTE, LoRaWAN, Sigfox, ZigBee, more
● Robust external connectivity
○ High bandwidth, caching
● Additional processing
○ Encrypting, transformation, managing and filtering data
13. Cloud
● Broker
○ Message management (routing, QoS)
○ Device management
○ Edge security
● Data Storage
○ Per message storage
○ Highly structured or low structure (data warehouse vs. data lake)
● Processing
○ Transform messages
○ Trigger workflows
● Analytics
○ Aggregate data for visualization (QuickSight, Power BI, Kibana)
○ Feed machine learning models

29. MQTT
● MQ Telemetry Transport (ISO/IEC PRF 20922)
● Publish-subscribe-based messaging protocol
● Designed to have a “small code footprint” and
"limited network bandwidth"
○ Low energy and bandwidth cost
● Three Quality of Service levels
○ At most once delivery (fire and forget)
○ At least once delivery (acknowledged delivery)
○ Exactly once delivery (assured delivery)
