"In all of Amazon’s commercials and advertisements for the Kindle Fire, the word 'tablet' is conspicuously absent. The only place one can find the word 'tablet' is embedded in the html code for the title of the Kindle Fire page on Amazon’s web site."
So, is the Amazon Kindle Fire a tablet or an overpriced e-reader?

In other words, what is Amazon’s go to market strategy and can it work?
I wrote this paper in 2011 for a Technology Strategy course in my MBA program. We were limited to ten pages, but I got little over zealous as you can see.

Google has taken steps to exert more control over the Android ecosystem by moving critical APIs out of the open source OS and into proprietary Google Play Services. This relieves fragmentation issues as Google Play Services updates are installed on 99% of Android devices. In the long run, it also gives Google more control over the app ecosystem as developers must now adjust their apps for each Android fork. The move fits into Google's overall strategy of "flattening, expanding, and mining" - flattening barriers between users and ad inventory, expanding the footprint of ad opportunities, and mining user data to improve ad targeting. It describes the different types of mobile apps and the most popular apps. It also discusses the major app stores (Apple, Android, Blackberry), their business models and market shares. Porter's five forces and SWOT analyses are presented for the mobile apps industry. Emerging trends in business, education and location-based apps are also mentioned.
AppSnips - Monetize Your App, Maximize Your ReachLogia Group
This document discusses strategies for monetizing mobile apps on different app stores and platforms. It provides statistics showing the Android market is growing faster than Apple's app store but has fewer paid apps currently. Tips include developing for both platforms but taking advantage of fewer competitors on Android initially. Case studies show games can generate more revenue on Android through in-app purchases and ads compared to iOS. Carrier app stores are also discussed as a promotion channel that can drive higher downloads and conversions than other channels through techniques like SMS marketing and pre-installation on devices. In summary, the document outlines current app market trends and recommends hybrid monetization strategies across platforms with a focus on in-app purchases and leveraging carrier promotion opportunities initially for Android
The document is an app insight report from InMobi analyzing app promotion trends in Q3 2013. Some key findings include:
- The US, India, Japan, China, and Indonesia were the top 5 countries for app downloads, accounting for over 60% of downloads.
- Games were the most downloaded category at 64% of downloads. Communication, telecom, and entertainment apps followed.
- Interstitial ads achieved the highest conversion rates, particularly on Android, while banners still performed well for non-gaming apps.
- The US, China, UK, and India had the highest and lowest costs per download, respectively, with costs varying by app category and region.
Global data from In Mobi covering the top trends in mobile app promotion campaigns. In Mobi have analyzed thousands of app promotion campaigns that ran on their mobile network.

The document discusses the history and future of automotive voice interfaces. It begins by outlining the major developments in automotive voice technology from the 1980s to present day. It then discusses some of the megatrends driving developments in human-machine interfaces, such as connectivity, urbanization and safety. The document also examines different input modalities like touchscreens, gesture control and handwriting recognition. It posits that voice will emerge as the principal automotive interface due to growing consumer acceptance from technologies like smartphones. The challenges of accuracy and costs are also acknowledged.
Mobile voice conference_automotve_voice_mts_llc_v3acoachdave
The document discusses the history and future of automotive voice interfaces. It notes that while voice technology has come a long way from early voice alerts, full conversational interfaces are still a challenge to develop due to the need for improved accuracy and high development costs. However, the use of voice interfaces is expected to significantly grow over the next decade, especially in China, and voice may become the principal interface for mid-range and entry-level vehicles. Factors like urbanization, safety needs, and new technologies from smartphones and cloud services are changing user preferences and accepting voice as a mainstream automotive interface.
The automotive industry will have a large presence at the 2013 Consumer Electronics Show in January. Many major automakers and over 110 automotive tech companies will attend to showcase new infotainment, connectivity, and mobility technologies. There will be a focus on connected car technologies like mobile apps, infotainment systems, and vehicle-to-vehicle safety applications. New display technologies for vehicle dashboards, 3D printing, and mobile payment apps will also be areas to watch.

“Hand-held

Today,

Look
to
the
Apple
App
Store
for
Answers
Phone-‐based
applications
have
been
with
us
for
several
years
now.
We
need
to
look
to
Apple
to
understand
and
see
how
the
automotive
application
store
might
evolve.
The
first
$500
iPhone
was
launched
in
June
2007
to
a
somewhat
skeptical
world.
Initial
only
a
few
select
applications,
about
eleven,
were
available
integrated
as
part
of
iPhone
software.
These
early
basic
apps
were
quickly
followed
in
a
few
months
by
an
application
store,
as
we
know
it
today.
The
rest
is
history!
Today,
applications
purchase
is
a
big
business:
• 30
new
applications
created
each
month,
• over
1
million
are
available
,
• with
a
revenue
of
about
$200
million
a
month.
The
Apple
apps
store
has
set
the
tone
for
other
stores.
Most
Apple
apps
are
being
priced
at
less
than
a
dollar,
the
cost
range
being
$.99
to
$4.99.
Entertainment
apps
cost
more
and
the
most
popular.
According
to
Gravity
Tank,
users
spend
about
$60-‐65
a
year.6
Recent

The
Automotive

Business
Model(s)
A
key
question
is
how
will
the
AAS
work
exactly?
How
will
automotive
applications
be
encouraged,
submitted,
verified
and
lastly
how
will
payment
be
made?
There
is
a
balance
between
helping
developers
get
to
market
quickly
with
a
viable
revenue
stream
and
overall
customer
satisfaction.
Customers
obviously
prefer
that
applications
are
free.
Our
research
at
Autotechinsider.com
research
has
verified
that
most
smart

user
are
paying
less
than
$5

for
applications
and
are
predominately
obtaining
free
applications,
but
considering
paying
for
premium
apps.
We
expect
that
the
two
business
models
to
emerge
will
be
supported
by
the
vehicle
manufacturers,
that
is
one
that
is
advertizing
or
marketing
based
and
the
other
largely
user
funded.
I
expect
the
initial
model
adopted
by
the
vehicle
manufacturers
will
be
marketing
based,
that
is
the
initial
focus
will
be
on
providing
an

primarily
a
tool
to
increase
customer

The
app

in
the
marketing
business
model
is
an
important
tool
to
improve
customer
satisfaction
amongst
the
growing
smart
phone
demographic
and
to
create
a
fast-‐to-‐market
environment
for
new
features.
As
Ford
SYNC
has
indicated
the
smart
phone
generation
is
exactly
the
new
customer
the
auto
OEM
wants
to

Potentially

sponsored

Premium

that
require

Applications
that

due
to

are
a
possibility,

this

envisions
that
most

these

Ford

the
tone
by
providing
Traffic,

such
as

In
summary,
it
is
difficult
to
project
a
large
market
of
paying
customers
for
premium
apps.
As
several
people
who
we
surveyed
stated,
“my
requirements
are
largely
met
by
free

What
Applications
will
we
find
on
the
Auto

A
key
questions
is
what
are
the
applications
that
most
interest
the
automotive
customer.
At
the

Ford

More
importantly,
Ford

At

there

I
would
suggest
that
the
majority
of

but
that
there
will
be
several
auto

that

QNX
articulates
this

well.
In
conclusion,
what
is
in
it
for
the

We
doubt
it
is
the
revenue

overall

In
contrast,
the
goals
of
Google
and
Apple
are
clear.
Google
wants
users

based
through
a
browser
connected
to
a
Google
server.
The
more
we
use
the
Web,
the
more
Google's

revenue.
In
a
similar
manner,
Apple
wants
to
get
users
to
be
customers
of
iTunes
and
its
App
Store
that
requires
us
to
purchase
hardware
like
Macs,
iPhone
and
now
the
iPad.
Vehicle
manufactures
will
want
us
to
visit
their
apps
stores
for
reasons
more
similar
to
Apple.
We
will
be
more
likely
to
buy
the

work…
I
learned
more
from
testing
the
product
“
“New
apps
are
researched
then
I
download
…”.
“The
cost
of
a
smart
phone
data
plan
for
my
family
approaches
a
car
payment”
“GPS
works
well,
but
I
would
like
to
have
elevation,
waypoints,
compass,
trails,
coastal
markers
in
addition
to
street
directions
and
maps”
“..
the
premium
apps
I’m
interested
are
around
LBS,
like
weather…
another
auto
app
is
to
allow
customization
of
my
vehicle
,
such
as
displays
for
easier
use…”
“A
car
will
require
a
different
set
of
apps
that
are
safe
and
easy
to
use”
“
Auto
apps
need
to
be
non-‐distracting,
since
auto
manufacturers
need
to
be
concerned
about
litigation.”
One
important
take
away
is
that
those
who
are
not
participating
in
this
important
new
convergence
of
consumer
electronics
technology
with
automotive
electronics
will
be
left
behind
–
to
participate
means
to
learn
and
guide
the
direction
of
the
business
model.
This
comment
applies
to
the
vehicle
manufacturers,
suppliers
and
consumers

the
“hand-‐
held
revolution”!!
