This document summarizes research on author profiling in social media. It discusses identifying information about users such as gender, age, emotions and personality traits from their writing online. It describes tasks at PAN-AP 2013 on identifying age/gender from English and Spanish texts with challenges like unlabeled, auto-generated or pedophile content. It also discusses identifying six basic emotions from manually annotated Facebook comments on different topics using stylistic and content features. Future work aims to improve style features, study relationships between emotions and traits, and use author profiling for social network analysis and understanding "who" people are online.
