The Coat of Arms represents each Australian state and territory through various symbols. The red kangaroo and emu hold the shield which has six points for the six states and one for territories. The shield represents Australian federation. Each state/territory has its own symbol like the New South Wales lion. The Australian flag features the Union Jack, Commonwealth Star, and Southern Cross representing British origins, federation, and navigation. Aboriginal and European settlers began migrating to Australia thousands and hundreds of years ago respectively, attracted by the land, weather, and later a multicultural society. The Aboriginal flag symbolizes unity with black for people and red/yellow for the land and sun.
