Intergenerational News:
Did you know?
 Youth involved in intergenerational mentoring
programs are 46% less likely to begin using illegal
drugs, 27% less likely to begin using alcohol, and
52% less likely to skip school.
 Intergenerational programs bring together diverse
groups and networks and help to dispel inaccurate and
negative stereotypes. Sharing talents and resources
help to create a unified group identity. Children,
youth, and older adults are less alienated while the
community recognizes that they can be contributing
members of society. These programs also help
preserve historical and cultural traditions, enhance
community spirit, and strengthen partnerships among
community organizations and individuals.

Birthdays This Month:
August 13th
– Corwin turns 4!
Happy, Happy Birthday to You!
Tips for Increasing Physical Activity:
Kendal at Oberlin is trying to make a
conscious effort to make physical activity a
regular part of the day. Here are some
ways you can include this at home:
 Take a nature walk.
 Take a swim.
 Drink lots of water.
From Your Child’s Teacher:
From the Classroom:
July was so much fun we are sad to see it go! The children really enjoyed the Lake Erie Nature and Science
Center. They especially loved the walk to the beach and of course getting ice cream! The children had a blast at
the Teddy Bear Picnic. We played soccer, went for a walk through the woods, and ate lunch out on the play yard.
We also finished up our study on buildings. It was great to see the children create buildings with so many
different materials and to go for lots of walks to look at buildings around Oberlin as well as to watch all the
construction going on here at Kendal. Even though we are finished with this study, we will continue to watch the
construction sites. The storm didn’t stop Water Day from happening either; we brought the pool inside and
enjoyed splashing in the classroom.
August is going to be full of fun as we celebrate summer coming to a close. We are going to Memphis Kiddie
Park as well as to the Lorain County Fair. We will also be walking over to the park on Thursdays, weather
permitting.
Congratulations to Jenn Perrino on the birth of her baby girl, Jessica JoLynn Osbourne! We can’t wait to meet
her!
Have a great month!
