STUDENT SPOTLIGHT
21-year-old Lexi Richter is taking classes at the Lake Campus to earn the credits
she needs to attend medical school to become a Pediatric Neurologist. Before
Lexi graduated from New Bremen High School in 2012, she attended the Lake
Campus as a post-secondary student. During her junior and senior year, she
earned enough credits to cover her first year of college before she graduated
high school. After high school, Lexi attended the University of Cincinnati where
she received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Neuropsychology.
While attending college, Lexi has been involved in the Miss America Orga-
nization campaigning for the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals and her
personal platform: Head for a Cause-Concussion Awareness. In order to raise
awareness and reach out to children about helmet and bicycle safety, Lexi pub-
lished a children’s book called
“The Big Race.” Lexi has also
recieved many awards for her
piano performances dur-
ing her participation in the
Miss America Organization.
This past June, Lexi won first
runner-up at Miss Ohio 2013
and took the spot as “Ohio’s
Sweetheart.” Lexi will soon
be competing for the title of
“National Sweetheart.”
Lexi likes the Lake Campus
because she thinks that it
“gives high school students
the opportunity to jump start
their education.” She also
enjoys the personal connec-
tions she is able to create
with teachers and professors
because of the small envi-
ronment at the college. This
semester, Lexi is ready to
check out the new things the
bookstore has to offer and
spend time in the Boathouse
between classes.
Above all, Lexi Richter has
accomplished many great
things and will continue to
do so. One of her favorite
quotes is by Anatole France,
“To accomplish great things
we must not only act, but also
dream; not only plan, but also
believe.” ◆

FASHION UPDATE This month’s fashion update
is the comeback trend widely
known as the “choker necklace.”
The choker necklace, now worn
by fashionistas for a relaxed
bohemian look, was once worn
with ball gowns and adorned
with ruffles and pendants in the
1700s. You may recognize the tat-
too choker necklaces that could
be found in gumball machines
in the 1990s. Currently, simple
choker necklaces are used to
spice up a laid-back, casual look
and are best when layered with
other necklaces of varied lengths.
From being called a variety of
names like ribbons and dog col-
lars, these fashionable necklaces
have quite the history. ◆

ons, make lemonade... And

QUOTE CORNER
ASK ANNIE Dear Anonymous,
Don’t worry! A lot of people struggle with finding extracurricular activities and
volunteer work to improve their resume. Luckily, the Lake Campus has all kinds
of opportunities for you to boost your resume and also become more involved.
The Lake Campus provides organizations such as the Cultural Enrichment Club,
Engineering Club, Open Door Club, Psychology Club, RaiderDogs Club and the
Wright with Christ Club. These are just a few out of many! For more organiza-
tions and information on these opportunities, visit lake.wright.edu/campus-life/
student-organizations.
One of the newer programs that the Lake Campus is now offering is called Con-
nect2Complete. The Connect2Complete program focuses on student retention,
community engagement and service learning. This new program is seeking 3-4
student workers to be employed as Peer Advocates who will help their fellow stu-
dents access academic and economic resources to overcome challenges that would
hinder them from returning the following semester or year. The first opportunity
to volunteer for the Connect2Complete program is on September 11th. During
this event, students will spend time bonding and thanking veterans who reside
in communities close by. To sign up for this event go to: https://surveymonkey.
com/r/587NKX5. On September 22nd, there will be a voter registration sponsored
by Rock the Vote in the Student Success Center. For more info on these events,
contact Heather Dorsten by text at 419-953-8399 or email heather.dorsten@
wright.edu. I hope this information will help you to build up your resume and get
involved at WSU Lake Campus and in your community. ◆

Annie,
I’m going to be a senior
and I’ve been thinking
about updating my resume
to help me get a good job
once I graduate but I don’t
have any extracurricular
activities or volunteer
work to add. How can I
improve my resume?

	 Sincerely,
	 Anonymous
