Recruiting and HR share the same goal; identifying, hiring and retaining the right people for the organization. Yet we seem to be locked in an endless battle with mutual distrust, dislike, and avoidance. These relationship dynamics arise whether we’re talking HR vs. in-house recruiters or HR vs. agency recruiters. So what gives? It’s true that sometimes HR ladies are intrusive busy bodies who feel the need to insert themselves into the relationships and processes between recruiters, hiring managers, and candidates. The result is that recruiters often view HR as either the rules/policy police with a sole-focus on risk-management or the primary bottleneck in getting the job done. On the other hand, HR practitioners often think recruiters are free wheeling glory-seekers who have no regard for things like employment law, internal compensation policies, or OFCCP directives. Yet, whether you believe that recruiting should be part of the HR Department or not it’s critical that practitioners in both areas understand each other in order to work together; with understanding we can develop trust and, perhaps, some mutual respect. In this session we’ll break down the what, why and how of HR and you’ll hear directly from two “HR ladies” who have sat on both sides during the course of their careers; HR and recruiting/talent acquisition.
