Consumers use multiple channels for researching and purchasing products. According to a survey of over 1,000 US consumers:
- Most consumers (78%) use two or more channels like computers, mobile devices, stores, catalogs, and customer service when browsing/researching and purchasing items. Nearly a third use three or more channels.
- Consumers often start online but complete purchases in stores because they want to see/feel products, compare brands, or didn't have enough online information.
- Mobile commerce and social media are growing in importance, especially for younger consumers, but their full potential is not yet realized by many merchants.
