The ATECO aluminum dome roof is a system of:-
• triangular lightweight extruded profiles
• connected through node points
• transmitting all the roof loads laterally to the integral
tension ring
• then through sliding or fixed supports to the tank
shell and the tank foundation.

9. All bolted structure and no welding is required at site for
its assembly and erection

The standard ATECO aluminum dome roof is fitted with
Sliding Supports and an Integral Tension Ring. This reduces
the forces being transmitted to the tank shell and generally
means that there is no significant modification required to the
tank.
Totally supported on the tank shell without any need for internal supports .
Aluminum dome roof do not require painting – EVER
Maintenance free for the entire lifetime of the tank.

Any equipment that you have on a conventional steel dome or cone roof tank can be
fitted on the ATECO aluminium dome roof and without any significant modification
to the equipment or the roof.

13. ATECO can supply all the necessary assembly and
erection equipment
Assembly inside or outside the tank - lifted using either
a system of pulley blocks or a crane
If using the “jacking method” to erect the tank, the

14. • ATECO aluminium dome roof is a self-supporting
structure
• ATECO aluminium dome roof lightweight
construction means that when fitting on an existing
external floating roof tank it is not normally
necessary to reinforce the tank shell
• ATECO aluminium dome roof is fitted with an
Integral Tension Ring to avoid any additional
stiffening requirement of the tank shell
• ATECO aluminium dome roof does not require
painting, EVER - in this respect it can be
considered as maintenance free for the entire
lifetime of the tank

Geodesic – means the shortest line between two points on a
curved surface.
Mr Buckminister Fuller from USA developed the principal
of the geodesic dome in the 1940’s primarily for social
housing .
The aluminum dome roof used on tanks is not strictly
geodesic - the main profile beams are connected at node
points on the surface of a sphere.

18. ATECO offer as standard a simple double
polyethylene foam seal on all internal floating roofs
• ease of assembly and installation - all component parts
pass through a standard tank shell manhole
• no welding at site - complete installation can normally be
carried out in a matter of weeks
• can accommodate both primary mechanical shoe
seal and a secondary seal
Internal Floating Roofs are installed in Fixed Roof Tanks to control the vapour
emissions from volatile hydrocarbon liquids.
The pontoon type has the most cost effect features:-
19. ATECO offer pontoon and full contact types, that meet and in most cases
exceed the requirements of API 650 Appendix H.
Although there is a fundamental difference in the design of each type of roof, many of their features and
accessories are the same.
Selection is primarily based upon the preference of the owner.

upgrade to the very successful ATECO Ultimate
Internal Floating Roof can accommodate storage

ATECO internal floating roofs can be suspended from cone
roof tanks or aluminum dome roofs:-
28. . The ATECO Weighted Pantograph Primary Seal
comprises 1.6 mm galvanised or stainless steel
shoe plates which are held against the tank shell
by a system of levers and heavy weights.
A vapour barrier is then fastened between the top
of the shoe plates and the top of pontoon on the
floating roof
The pushing force is gravity and since this
is always present this type of seal has proved
to me robust and very reliable.
29. However, installation, maintenance and repair is relatively difficult and for this
reason ATECO has introduced the ATECO Pusher Plate Primary Seal which is
commonly referred to as a “top mounted seal” meaning that this seal can be
initially installed and subsequently accessed for maintenance and repair from the top of
the floating roof.
The Ateco Pusher Plate Primary Seal comprises 1.6 mm
galvanised or stainless steel shoe plates which are held
against the tank shell by hardened staınless steel spring steel
plates.
Installation, maintenance and repair is relatively
straight forward since all parts of the seal can be
access from the top of the floating roof and even
with the tank in service.
30. The Ateco Double Compression Plate Seal is a very efficient and most
cost effective seal system since it comprises a primary and secondary seal in
the same unit.
Features include 1.6 mm thick independent and overlapping galvanized or
1.2 mm stainless spring steel compression plates. A continuous vapour
barrier membrane can be included.
The ATECO Foam Log Primary Seal comprises a 2 mm thick
PVC Nitrile envelope surrounding ccompressible polyurethane foam.
The main primary seal in the non mechanical category is the Foam Log Seal
The more “pressure points” that are applied to the shoes plates the more
efficient the seal – the ATECO Weighted Pantograph Seal and the ATECO Pusher
Plate Seal have six (6 No) pressure points per plate.
31. ATECO supply a foam dam that bolts on the pontoon rim angle and has the same hole
spacing as the primary and secondary seals, With either 1.6 mm Galvanized or 1.2 mm
Stainless Steel Plates the ATECO Foam Dam meets the intent of API 650 and NFPA 10
however, to fully comply with NFPA 10 we also offer 3.5 mm thick plates for bolting or
welding to the tank roof.
Mechanical seals can be fitted with a wax scraper and where highly volatile products are stored a drip curtain can be
attached and this has the effect of enhancing the sealing efficiency in areas where seal tip to shell contact is less than
perfect due to protruding welds or severe corrosion of shell plates.

The ATECO Compression Plate Secondary Seal with 1.6 mm independent and
overlapping galvanized or 1.2 mm stainless steal spring steel plates is the most popular
secondary seal and can be used with all the ATECO primary seals. A continuous
vapour barrier membrane can be supplied
32. A mechanical seal has lower frictıon resistance and Ateco has
developed a lighter weight mechanical pusher plate type of
primary seal specıfıcally for use with an aluminum internal
floating roof.
The Pusher Plate Prımary Seal ıncorporates three
hardened staınless steel plates provıdıng sıx pressure
poınts on each 1.6 mm thıck shoe plate.
Thıs ıs a top mounted seal whıch means ıt can be
ınıtıally ınstalled and subsequently maıntaıned from
the top of the ınternal floatıng roof.
The Ateco Pusher Plate Prımary Seal ıs compatıble wıth most stored products and wıll maıntaın a very tıght seal over a
rım gap varyıng from 100 mm to 300 mm with six pressure points on each shoe plate.
We also ıncorporarte ‘faıl save’ features to prevent damage to the seal and tank ın the event that the workıng
tolerances of the rım gap are exceeded.
