The Crowsnest Fires started small but grew out of control on August 21, 2003, eventually measuring 6 km wide and 50 meters high, burning over 20,000 hectares near Crowsnest Pass, Alberta. While most local industries suffered economic losses from the fires, especially tourism, at least one company, Spray Lake Sawmills, was able to profit by salvaging burnt lumber.
