Assignment for 10/27
Johncouldbe chargedwithconspiracy. He contributed$12 to the purchase of the gasoline andwaspart
of the conversationthatwentdowntotry and setthe professor’shome onfire. However, thischarge
wouldbe droppedbecause there isn’tenoughevidence toconvictJohnof anythingandthe fact that
Dummydidn’tmake itto the house or call themafterthe gettingof the gas can couldrule out his
contributionashismoneydidn’tbenefitthe crime inanyway.
Denniscouldalsobe chargedwithconspiracybecause he waspart of the conversationtoburndownthe
house.However,he didn’tputanymoneyintothe crime,buthe didsay he wouldpayeachof themback
afterthe fact. He didn’treceive acall fromDummyeitherandthuswouldprobablyhave hischarge
dropped.
Bob couldbe chargedwithconspiracy. He was a part of the conversationtosetthe house on fire with
the rest of them. Also,he contributed$5to the purchase of the gasoline whichhelpsmake himanactive
memberinthe conspiracy. He didn’tgeta call fromDummyeitherandtherefore hischarge would
probablybe droppedaswell.
Dummycan be chargedwithconspiracy,publicintox,theft,andpossiblyfailure toact.Hispart inthe
conspiracyto setthe professor’shouse onfire isobvious,he isthe one pickedtosetthe eventsin
motion. He was supposedtochipin$9 for the gasoline andwasgiveneveryone else’smoneytopickit
up.He was alsosupposedtocall themupon gettingitso theycouldall meetup.Thisshouldbe enough
to helpconvicthimof that crime. The publicintox charge wouldbe because he drankseveral bottlesof
beerat the bar and thenlefttogo out in publicandheadedtothe gas station. The theft charge would
probablybe pettytheftbecause atengalloncan of gasoline doesn’tcostthatmuch, howeveritis
obvioushe tookitfrom the gas stationandit can probablybe shownoncamera. The onlycharge I can
2. see that will be highlycontestedwouldbe the failuretoact charge.Thischarge can be made because his
actionsintakingthe gas can causedthe oldman to chase afterhim andthus causedhimto be hitby the
driverof the car (whobythe wayshouldn’tbe chargedwithanythingbecause itwasn’t hisfault) and
thusbe killed.ThisiswhyIcan see himbeingchargedwiththisscenario.
