As part of her training her boss has offered to send her to their HQ in Uzbekistan for one year. The office is staffed with several Americans and English speaking Uzbeks. She intends to be a student of the culture and apply all that she has learned in the last few years.

This is a former Soviet country that is populated with mostly Ukrainians, Kazakhs, Uzbeks and Tajiks. She has learned that they think of themselves as European but are primarily Muslim in their religious beliefs but motivated by pursuing material wealth.
As she contemplates how little she knows about this country and its people, some anxiety begins to creep in along with the excitement of the challenge of the unknown. To ensure she is reasonably well prepared before she goes, she decides to communicate with the Uzbek Director, Ludmilla Kovalenko.

Module Overview
In Module 1, we considered the role of culture in influencing how people think, feel, act, and believe. Together, these constitute a “worldview” which can vary drastically from culture to culture. Yet leaders are called upon to solve problems and address challenges that span cultural boundaries, and they need to harness the resources of peoples who may view the problems very differently from each other. How to navigate these differences and discover a structure of culture that can help leaders come to mutual understanding is the topic of this module.
Drawing on the work of Geert Hofstede and others (2010), we distinguish between personality (individual characteristics that make one person uniquely different from another), human nature (shared characteristics that are common to all members of the species), and culture (learned behaviors that are shared by members of a group or category). The frameworks that are the primary focus of this module concern values, attitudes, and beliefs at the cultural level. That is, we recognize that individuals will differ, but they will also share a system of overarching learned behaviors that are common to all members of that society.
The dimensions of culture that are discussed … represent the ways that groups of people within a culture interpret and manage the universal questions faced by all societies as members of the human race. These questions involve such topics as what is the nature of power and authority? What is the responsibility of the individual to the group? Is short term gain more important than long term stability? How do we manage the unexpected and unpredictable? While there may be individual differences in the responses to these questions, there are also larger, broader, shared patterns of response that are shaped by the norms and values of a given society. These are referred to a “cultural dimensions,” and knowledge of these broad patterns can help leaders to anticipate, interpret, and react to practices that may at first seem very odd and illogical. When viewed through the lens of cultural dimensions, strange customs and practices can make perfect sense and can lead to greater cultural intelligence (and effectiveness) on the part of the leader.

1. What is your faculty-approved global issue/problem? - My faculty approved global issue/ problem is racism.

Explain how you narrowed your focus to examine some aspect of that issue that affects disenfranchised and underrepresented groups. - I narrowed to this focus to represent the different ethnic and cultural groups around the globe. I wanted to highlight the mistreatment along with highlight the myths of racism that affects disenfranchised and underrepresented groups.
3. Draft a working thesis for your Diversity Perspectives paper. - Racism is a world wide problem caused by ignorance that differentiates people with skin color and can be resolved through continuous education.
4. What three to five points will you make to explain the significance of the issue? - What is racism .How racism affects our progress in the world.How racism affect growth in communities and businesses.
5. Identify the competing entities (populations) affected by this issue. Which of them are disadvantaged and underrepresented? - The quality of life for specific groups of people are affected tremendously by this topic. There are so many different races in the world to specifically name them all here in this form; Jewish and Americans from the African decent are the two big ones most are aware of .

For each of the groups identified, what cultural perspective will you present? - I will present how Hitler attempted to kill off all the Jewish, I may talk about how there culture changed based off of this action. I will talk about how the everyday discrimination that the Americans from African decent have to endure in America. I will deliver this from the White American along with the African Americans perspective.

What evidence will you use from your literature review and additional sources? - Evident cultural inequities have been acknowledge throughout history for both discriminated groups. In America, blacks have been subjected to mistreatment from elected officials, Public servants (police officers). I will utilize evidence from my sources identified in my first proposal, I will also utilize social media groups and show the reader different sides of the issues at concern.

It has been a year since Juanita finished her degree and about two years since she has been promoted to HR Director status. As part of her training her boss has offered to send her to their HQ in Uzbekistan for one year. The office is staffed with several Americans and English speaking Uzbeks. She has spent some time studying the people and culture and thinks this will be an “adventure of a lifetime”. Of course, she knows that it will be a very different world for her. She intends to be a student of the culture and apply all that she has learned in the last few years.
Juanita has asked for a week to do research on the culture and how it has impacted the way their organization fulfills their mission. This is a former Soviet country that is populated with mostly Ukrainians, Kazakhs, Uzbeks and Tajiks. She has learned that they think of themselves as European but are primarily Muslim in their religious beliefs but motivated by pursuing material wealth.
As she contemplates how little she knows about this country and its people, some anxiety begins to creep in along with the excitement of the challenge of the unknown. To ensure she is reasonably well prepared before she goes, she decides to communicate with the Uzbek Director, Ludmilla Kovalenko.
Ludmilla, is Ukranian and has offered to provide her insights into the areas Juanita is interested in. Module Overview
In Module 1, we considered the role of culture in influencing how people think, feel, act, and believe. Together, these constitute a “worldview” which can vary drastically from culture to culture. Yet leaders are called upon to solve problems and address challenges that span cultural boundaries, and they need to harness the resources of peoples who may view the problems very differently from each other. How to navigate these differences and discover a structure of culture that can help leaders come to mutual understanding is the topic of this module.
Drawing on the work of Geert Hofstede and others (2010), we distinguish between personality (individual characteristics that make one person uniquely different from another), human nature (shared characteristics that are common to all members of the species), and culture (learned behaviors that are shared by members of a group or category). The frameworks that are the primary focus of this module concern values, attitudes, and beliefs at the cultural level. That is, we recognize that individuals will differ, but they will also share a system of overarching learned behaviors that are common to all members of that society.
The dimensions of culture that are discussed … represent the ways that groups of people within a culture interpret and manage the universal questions faced by all societies as members of the human race. These questions involve such topics as what is the nature of power and authority? What is the responsibility of the individual to the group? Is short term gain more important than long term stability? How do we manage the unexpected and unpredictable? While there may be individual differences in the responses to these questions, there are also larger, broader, shared patterns of response that are shaped by the norms and values of a given society. These are referred to a “cultural dimensions,” and knowledge of these broad patterns can help leaders to anticipate, interpret, and react to practices that may at first seem very odd and illogical. When viewed through the lens of cultural dimensions, strange customs and practices can make perfect sense and can lead to greater cultural intelligence (and effectiveness) on the part of the leader.
