State-of-the-Art Facilities
The foundation of Astrotech’s leadership position in the industry is a result of its
significant investment in specialized, ideally-located facilities. The Company’s
full-service; state-of-the-art facilities are configured to serve a variety of payloads
and launch-vehicle subassemblies. The facilities offer customers an alternative to
using government-owned processing locations, which is particularly important to
international customers. Featuring clean-room and quality-control capabilities,
hazardous and nonhazardous material processing, flight-hardware and ground-
support equipment storage, and office accommodations for customers, Astrotech’s
facilities become a seamless extension of the spacecraft manufacturer’s operations
near the launch pad. Astrotech’s operating model allows for maximum flexibility in
processing parallel missions and to accommodate schedule changes.
Titusville, Florida – Located just outside the gates of Kennedy Space Center,
Astrotech’s 62-acre property consists of nine buildings totaling 140,000 square feet.
A central feature is its 46,500-square-foot Spacecraft Payload Processing Facility,
which can support 4-meter- and 5-meter-class spacecraft and the associated payload
fairings manifested for launch on the Delta IV and the Atlas V launch-vehicle systems
operated by United Launch Alliance.
Spacecraft Payload Processing Facility (SPPF), Florida – Astrotech’s SPPF is
a 52,000-square-foot building just outside CCAFS that includes a 10,000-square-
foot, class 100K cleanroom and multiple
supporting adjacent rooms including a
portable Laminar Flow Enclosure that can
provide 10K cleanroom capability and
a 3,600-square-foot air lock. Adjacent
processing rooms include a dedicated shipping
and receiving area, secure bonded storage

rooms, a foam-cutting room, a dedicated bench-review and flight-hardware packaging room, a cable-preparation
room, and several laboratory-grade Customer Work Areas that are equipped with fume hoods and laminar flow
benches. The facility also offers ample engineering office space, a secure-document and data-control room, and
several conference rooms. The grounds feature a security-controlled perimeter fence and badge-controlled access.
Vandenberg Air Force Base (VAFB), California – Astrotech’s
60-acre VAFB site consists of five buildings and 38,500 square
feet of space supporting expendable Atlas, Delta, Pegasus, and
Taurus launches from the Western Range. Astrotech is nearing
completion of a new spacecraft processing bay that will provide
the capability to process five-meter class payloads. This five-
meter high bay is capable of hazardous and non-hazardous
processing and will provide an additional 8,000 square feet of
clean room processing space and a 60-ton capacity overhead
crane with a 100 foot hook height. This facility also includes a
new $1.2 million administration building that enables Astrotech
to expand its capacity on the Western Range.
Sea Launch Home Port Facilities, California – Astrotech
provides payload-processing and facility-support services
for the Sea Launch program at Sea Launch’s home port
facilities in Long Beach, California. Sea Launch is an
international consortium consisting of companies from the
U.S., Russia, Norway, and Ukraine that provides launch
services from a near-equatorial mobile sea platform using
specialized Zenit-3SL rockets.
