This document summarizes a two-year project in Sierra Leone funded by DFID to provide technical assistance to strengthen the Ministry of Mineral Resources' capacity and efficiency. The project focuses on day-to-day management support, policy development, legal and regulatory reform. It aims to restore policy and institutions for artisanal mining, which accounts for 80% of Sierra Leone's diamond production but lacks engagement between large mining companies and communities. The partnerships formed between government, donors, and organizations have begun achieving institutional reforms and improved stakeholder engagement, but more work remains to be done in policy implementation, new legislation, regulatory framework development and ensuring ministry capacity is self-sustaining.
