Classroom discussion in an online environment requires the active participation of students and the instructor to create robust interaction and dialogue. Every student is expected to create an original response to the open-ended DB question as well as engage in dialogue by responding to posts created by others throughout the week. Course Objective, Organization, & Content
This is a topical discussion based course concerned with social identity development theory. A stated goal of the
student affairs profession is to maximize student learning through the facilitation of the many aspects of
personal and interpersonal development. To accomplish this goal, student affairs professionals must have a clear
understanding of the developmental issues facing students and the process by which development occurs. They
must also be aware of factors that effect development and be able to work with individuals, groups, and
organizations within the diverse campus community to establish environments conducive to the development of
students from a variety of backgrounds. Knowledge of theories of social identity development and the
application of principles of social justice in college settings will assist student affairs professionals in
accomplishing these goals.
This course is organized around concepts of individual level social identity theories and systemic level theories
of intersectionality, privilege, and power. Each week the class will be engaged in activities and discussion about
particular individual-level identity theories (race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, class, ability, spirituality)
with particular attention paid to how these identities intersect and the social and systemic implications of

What I do I think about sustainability? Actually, I don’t like the word very much. The reason is that no one, as far as I know, is in

Most foreign language learning classes do not tell students the misunderstandings may happen when you study/live abroad.
Theoretical Framework.
Our research is informed by online resources through Miami University library such as articles, books and news. Also, we will combine with class’s reading materials to discuss. Then we will interview several Chinese students and American students to obtain useful information to our project.
Methodology
Our methodology include searching materials online,interview Miami students who have experience study abroad or travel abroad and professors who have experience about teach them. Also,we search about the video for learning foreign language in class.
Significance/Broader Impact

What I Know, Assume, or Imagine
Poverty is the state of lacking something. Personally, I view
poverty as the lack of ability in monetary terms. This is
conveyed about by, one being declared bankrupt or
unemployment or even one being lazy. These factors have led to
people reoccupying their households and dwelling in the slums.
Not everyone though, who lives in the slums is poor and not
everyone who also lives well is rich. From what I have learned,
everyone who lives below one Dollar a day is poor.The Search
According to the dictionary, poverty is the state of lacking a
social or common acceptable amount of material possessions or
money. World Bank describes poverty as a deprivation of one’s
wellbeing which comprises many dimensions. This is the
inability of acquiring the basic goods and services and low
incomes
Also, poverty girdles inadequate security, lack of a voice or say,
low opportunity and capacity to better one’s livelihood, poor
access to sanitation and clean water, and low levels of education
and health.
69. Poverty is measured as either relative poverty or absolute
poverty also known as extreme poverty. The Copenhagen
Declaration focuses only on absolute poverty. Absolute poverty
is the condition brought about by severe lack of basic human
needs. These are food, clothing, shelter and security. Education,
health and information are also included.
Absolute poverty is the state where one lives below one Dollar a
day and relative poverty is the state by which one lives below
two Dollars a day.
Relative poverty on the other hand is the state in which an
individual lives within a society. This varies in most countries,
but as stated above, anyone who lives below two Dollars a day
is termed to be relatively poor.
According to a survey conducted by the World Bank
Development Indicators in 2008, 12% of the world’s population
are extremely poor. This means that these people live below one
Dollar a day. 8% of the same population lived on 1.25 Dollars a
day, 6% at 1.45 Dollars and 14% at 2 Dollars a day. This means
that 28% of the world’s population are relatively poor.
Generally, less than 80% of the population live below 10
Dollars a day.
The main causes of poverty around the World are, bad
government policies, lack of individual responsibility, power
and influence among businesses and exploitation of people.
There are more factors like, agricultural cycles, warfare, natural
disasters, power centralization, corruption and environmental
degradation.
However, each of the causes above has a solution. In
agricultural cycles, there are people in many parts of the world
who rely solely on agriculture as their source of wealth and
basic commodities. Normally, all consumption commodities will
rely on the agricultural cycles. Take an example of fruits and
vegetables. For the families who rely on these commodities,
there are periods which they will experience scarcity thus
hunger. This will then lead to lack of sufficient resources to
satisfy their minimal nutrition needs thus causing diseases.
70. However, they can plant their agricultural products in cycles
too. For example, if a commodity takes three months to mature,
they can subdivide the land to accommodate all their
commodities and ensure that they plant every month to ensure
the flow of food.
For instance, of natural disasters, nothing can be done to stop
them, but prevention measures can be taken. Individually, one
can take insurance for their belongings. This will help rebuild
after am occurrence. To the nation’s most prone to the disasters,
infrastructures should be constructed to withhold the aftermath.
For example, in nations prone to earthquakes, they should have
policies on how buildings are to be constructed. This will
prevent the numbers of casualties affected. In areas prone to
floods, strong infrastructure should be brought up to withhold
the floods.What I Discovered
According to the study, I came to learn that most people in the
world are poor. It is up to each and every one to prevent
poverty. Most factors that bring about poverty can be evaded.
Take an example of corruption. Rooting out the corrupt leaders
can be a great step towards eradicating poverty.
We should take it upon ourselves to also get rid of those
behaviors and morals that are slowly eating us up from within.
Take an example of social inequality. No matter our religious
differences, I believe that we are all equal in the eyes of the
Lord thus by implementing this theory we can assist the
children living in the slums. Providing education to these
children will help bring up a better tomorrow, thus bringing us a
step closer to eradicating poverty.

Proposal Argument Assignment
While the first two phases of the assignment (the Exploratory
Essay and the I Search Essay) taught you how to generate
significant and problematic questions and how to engage with
your research, the third and final phase will ask you to respond
to those questions in the form of a proposal. In your essay, you
will propose a solution to the issue that you are considering in
order to convince your instructor and your classmates that your
tentative issue has good potential, is timely, and is important.
As Ramage, Bean, and Johnson note in chapter 15 of your text,
a policy proposal is an essay, “in which the writer offers a
broad plan of action to solve major social economic, or political
problems affecting the common good”(313). This is the type of
proposal I am asking you to write for your final essay. You
have spent time thinking through a particular problem and
reading about other people’s solution to the problem. Now it is
your turn to enter the conversation with your proposed solution.
The goal of the “Proposing a
Solution
Essay” is to make an argument that calls an audience to action.
You’ll make a claim that some action should or ought to be
taken. You will offer a solution to the issue you explored in
your Exploratory Essay and/or researched in your I Search
72. Essay. Your solution will be a positive step in the larger
problem you have been grappling with all semester. By
focusing your argument on one specific public problem, you
will be responding to the frequently asked questions: But what
can we do and why should we do anything?
This part of the assignment calls for a proposal argument that
will contain the following four parts:
1. A description of the problem (summarize what is going on
and why it is important to your targeted audience, appeal to
your readers pathos).
2. A proposal for a solution (Here you will need to gather from
your preliminary research to help you consider possible
solutions and appeal to your readers logos).
3. A justification for the solution (assert your position, make
your claim; your thesis). Your justification should include at
least 2 of the 3 argument approaches; Argument from Principle,
Argument from Consequence, Argument from Resemblance.

4. A response to objections or to alternative proposals.

73. Consider all parts of the Toulmin anaylsis (see example on page
315) in your prewriting stage to be sure you have thought
through the validity of your argument.
Audience
When determining your target audience you want to analyze
specific characteristics by identifying and answering the
following questions:
· How would you define them in terms of age, economic and
social class, gender, education, etc.? What typical attitudes,
stances, or biases about your topic does this audience hold?
· What in their background or daily experiences helps explain
their point of view?
· What are they likely to know about your topic?
· How might they be uninformed or misinformed about it?
· How would they like to see the problem, question, or issue
resolved, answered, or handled? Why? That is, what personal
stake do they have in the topic?
