The sandwhich
 Our film begins with Anirudh whose the detective walking home. This is the first character
that's introduced and he appears to be tensed while speaking to someone on the phone.
With regards to his outfit and what's heard while the detectives on the phone, audience are
able to get hints and understand his personality and character which will be revealed in the
later part of the film.Generally in movies there's an introduction scene where characters
are introduced directly with names. However in this Case since the movie is more of the
mystery genre the identity of characters stays anonymous until the audience figures it out.
There's not much verbal content in our film as a result the only part that needed to be
dubbed was when the detective was on the phone. Dubbing is a process of recording
voices in a sound proof studio preventing any external sounds caused by the surroundings.
The setting of the film is introduced when the detective walks home with mild non digetic
background music.
SHOTS AND ANGLES
When the protagonist walks towards his house there's an Ariel or overhead shot taken from the
balcony of the house. Its a high angle shot which makes the subject look smaller and less powerful. The
left two images are from the sandwich and the two on the right are movie examples.
Pan shots are shots where the camera moves from left to right .These shots can be used to show a
particular location. It often used to show that not all locations can fit into one frame, some a wide .
Extreme close ups are used in films to show detail to an object or character. Its often used to
express emotion. In the left the killer is excited as the detectives dead and the zoom in of his face
catches the audience attention and brings various questions to their mind keeping them more
involved. Quentin tarantino used close up and extreme close shots to convey the gravity of a
particular situation or the manipulative strength of a character's vice.
Lighting
The sandwich was mostly shot in the afternoon with natural lighting however the
setting was a little bit darker inside with shadows as we wanted to give out a mysterious
and dark vibe. Using bright lighting could mean a cheerful and pleasant atmosphere
which was not what we were going for.
Apart from the natural light we used fairy lights for an aesthetically pleasing
background and the dim yellow light on the staircase .These kind of lights help with the
ambience and adjusting the moods of the audience
In other movies
The Sandwich
REPRESENTATIONAND ISSUES
The sandwich depicts an average man who is very hardworking and passionate about his job but
unfortunately he's piled up with work given from authorities who are completely money minded. Even when
the detective was on the phone it was probably his manager giving him more work as he seemed tenses.
Stress is a social issues in today's world. There's the pressure to be perfect . All this can lead to sleep disorders,
anxiety and depression which is very common amongst teens and working adults. In the sandwich the killer is
in the house and the detective doesn't realise that as a result he goes on to find harder methods to find the
killer. There are simpler solutions however most people complicate it . Stress is caused by social media, work
load, being unhealthy etc. Social media has both good and bad effects on people. Excess usage of social
media can result in eye strain and imbalanced in the human body. This film is very relatable to most audience.
They tend to place themselves in the characters shoes and think about what they would've done and why. All
of this results in everyone realising how busy and complicated their lives have become .The characters
emotions have a huge grip on the audience. In real life, we meet and interact with other people unlike in
stories, many of these interactions are fairly superficial.Though some audience may enjoy a distanced,
intellectual challenge, most want to engage with the characters as a result we have written down a plot to
track scene by scene the characters emotions.
How does your product engage with audience and how would it be distributed as real
media text?
In order to engage audience we decided
to use social media sites like twitter and
facebook. In the recent years twitter has
gained popularity and its a crucial to
have one as people of all ages use
twitter so advertising and engaging with
audience becomes easier.
Our target demographic was teens and
working adults however, the film would
also appeal to a wide range of age
groups. The sandwich is given a PG in
the MPAA film rating
How the film engages with audience
•The Sandwich engages with audience from the start to finish as there's very minimal
conversation and the film mainly focuses on portraying emotions.
•The cliff-hanger in the end leaves the audience curious and with a lot of questions. In
the case of a movie trailer this motivates audience to come watch the full movie to get
answers to their questions.
•The mild background music gives forth a very calm but creepy start , eventually the
music slowly raises its pace and draws the audiences attention as they know
something bad is going to happen .
DISTRIBUTION
As a real media text,'The
sandwich’ is a film suitable to a
lot of age groups as a result a
combination of new media and
traditional media is used.
Promotion of the film could
be carried out through viral
marketing which is social
media campaigns on
and facebook in addition
to billboard ads and
television.
We chose Sony Pictures
Entertainment Motion
Picture Group is one of the
major distributers in the
film industry however
there are various other
small short film distributer
like the six sigma films
The film would be
released in theatres
worldwide with a
globally accessible
storyline.
To reach out to and
gain an international
audienceThe
Sandwich will be
released on Netflix.
The film would also be
available for purchase on
demand onYouTube and
Amazon.
How did your production skills develop throughout the process ?
This was the first short film I've ever made however I'm quite familiar with the camera
Equipment as I've previously worked with it for different purposes' .We worked on the film making task as
a group where the three of us learnt all the aspects of making a film like screenwriting, storyboard, filming
and then spilt parts of each task amongst us so that each of us learnt about the techniques and the entire
planning process.
Script writing = previously having no experience in story and
script writing I found this quite fascinating and surprising as
there is more to script writing than just writing dialogues. I
learnt how to set up a description
Storyboard = The storyboard helped me become creative
and picture how I wanted the scenes to turn out. Art being
one my hobby and strength I found this task very interesting
as I was able to picture how the film were to look before the
shooting begin. At first I dint understand the purpose of a
storyboard however once the shooting for ‘THE
SANDWHICH’ began the drawings just made the shooting of
scenes easier as the cinematographers knew what they were
expected to do.
Cinematography = Apart from the basics of what I knew, filming ‘THE SANDWHICH’
helped me learn more about the technical side . I learnt the different shots and angles
like over the shoulder shot, low angle high angle, establishment shot and close up shot
to name a few and about lightings, costumes, props and the overall mise-en-scene . I
also learned how all the above topics connect and influence each other and how the
rule of thirds and framing help compose the film.
Editing = We had to edit two parts one was the film and other part was the soundtrack.
We used IMovies to help join different scenes, cut out unwanted parts ,add music, add
transitions and layer sounds. To colour balance our film to bring it to the same even
colour we used ‘DaVinci Resolve’ which is a software that combines online and offline
editing to help colour correct and inhance the film.
How did you integrate technologies – Software, hardware, and online - in this
project?
Software
1. Microsoft word
2. I movies
3. Davinci resolve
Hardware
1. Canon 600 D
2. Nikon D5300
3. Tripod
4. Phone
5. Props
6. Costumes
7. Microphone
Online
1.Blog
2.YouTube
The reason for the success of my media project is correct combination of software,
hardware and online technologies.
- I used iMovies to help edit and bring all the footage together to make our film
‘The Sandwich’
-For the filming the hardware used was a Nikon D5300 and a Canon 600 D with
18-55 mm and 55-250mm lenses along with two sturdy tripods. We used the dim
yellow lights already installed in the house and the tube lights.Apart from the
above we also added fairy lights to the background for aesthetics and functionality
- For the script and plot I used Microsoft Word.
- We recorded and dubbed the voices using a microphone and we recorded our
original music using instruments with the help of music students.
- My online blog helped track my progress and the film posted onYouTube is the
outcome.
A film cannot be made without the use of hardware, software and online
technologies. From writing the script to making the final film the above technologies
play an important part . For example ‘The Sandwich’ was shot using hardware,
written using online technology , edited using software's like Davinci resolve and
iMovies and updated online in the form of a blog.
The process of creating and shooting our film ‘The Sandwich’ has helped me develop my
skills ,bring out my imagination and learn the art of storytelling by expressing what i feel.
I have grown a lot as a filmmaker during this task and I hope this will help me on my
journey of becoming a filmmaker and media aspirant.
Hopefully this catches the attention of my audience as I've researched on audience
behaviour and the aspects of a film that are attention catching which I've incorporated in
my film. Some of them are listed below
1. Narrative must Help the Audience Construct their Own Identity
2. Background music
3. Lighting
4. Discuss real life problems
5. Know that all your audience aren't the same
6. Establishing an emotional bond
7. Communicate clearly
8. Be authentic

Using bright lighting could mean a cheerful and pleasant atmosphere which was not what we were going for. Apart from the natural light we used fairy lights for an aesthetically pleasing background and the dim yellow light on the staircase .These kind of lights help with the ambience and adjusting the moods of the audience In other movies The Sandwich
  • 5. REPRESENTATIONAND ISSUES The sandwich depicts an average man who is very hardworking and passionate about his job but unfortunately he's piled up with work given from authorities who are completely money minded. Even when the detective was on the phone it was probably his manager giving him more work as he seemed tenses. Stress is a social issues in today's world. There's the pressure to be perfect . All this can lead to sleep disorders, anxiety and depression which is very common amongst teens and working adults. In the sandwich the killer is in the house and the detective doesn't realise that as a result he goes on to find harder methods to find the killer. There are simpler solutions however most people complicate it . Stress is caused by social media, work load, being unhealthy etc. Social media has both good and bad effects on people. Excess usage of social media can result in eye strain and imbalanced in the human body. This film is very relatable to most audience. They tend to place themselves in the characters shoes and think about what they would've done and why. All of this results in everyone realising how busy and complicated their lives have become .The characters emotions have a huge grip on the audience. In real life, we meet and interact with other people unlike in stories, many of these interactions are fairly superficial.Though some audience may enjoy a distanced, intellectual challenge, most want to engage with the characters as a result we have written down a plot to track scene by scene the characters emotions.
  • 6. How does your product engage with audience and how would it be distributed as real media text? In order to engage audience we decided to use social media sites like twitter and facebook. In the recent years twitter has gained popularity and its a crucial to have one as people of all ages use twitter so advertising and engaging with audience becomes easier. Our target demographic was teens and working adults however, the film would also appeal to a wide range of age groups. The sandwich is given a PG in the MPAA film rating How the film engages with audience •The Sandwich engages with audience from the start to finish as there's very minimal conversation and the film mainly focuses on portraying emotions. •The cliff-hanger in the end leaves the audience curious and with a lot of questions. In the case of a movie trailer this motivates audience to come watch the full movie to get answers to their questions. •The mild background music gives forth a very calm but creepy start , eventually the music slowly raises its pace and draws the audiences attention as they know something bad is going to happen .

  • 8. How did your production skills develop throughout the process ? This was the first short film I've ever made however I'm quite familiar with the camera Equipment as I've previously worked with it for different purposes' .We worked on the film making task as a group where the three of us learnt all the aspects of making a film like screenwriting, storyboard, filming and then spilt parts of each task amongst us so that each of us learnt about the techniques and the entire planning process. Script writing = previously having no experience in story and script writing I found this quite fascinating and surprising as there is more to script writing than just writing dialogues. I learnt how to set up a description Storyboard = The storyboard helped me become creative and picture how I wanted the scenes to turn out. Art being one my hobby and strength I found this task very interesting as I was able to picture how the film were to look before the shooting begin. At first I dint understand the purpose of a storyboard however once the shooting for ‘THE SANDWHICH’ began the drawings just made the shooting of scenes easier as the cinematographers knew what they were expected to do.
  • 9. Cinematography = Apart from the basics of what I knew, filming ‘THE SANDWHICH’ helped me learn more about the technical side . I learnt the different shots and angles like over the shoulder shot, low angle high angle, establishment shot and close up shot to name a few and about lightings, costumes, props and the overall mise-en-scene . I also learned how all the above topics connect and influence each other and how the rule of thirds and framing help compose the film. Editing = We had to edit two parts one was the film and other part was the soundtrack. We used IMovies to help join different scenes, cut out unwanted parts ,add music, add transitions and layer sounds. To colour balance our film to bring it to the same even colour we used ‘DaVinci Resolve’ which is a software that combines online and offline editing to help colour correct and inhance the film.

  • 11. The reason for the success of my media project is correct combination of software, hardware and online technologies. - I used iMovies to help edit and bring all the footage together to make our film ‘The Sandwich’ -For the filming the hardware used was a Nikon D5300 and a Canon 600 D with 18-55 mm and 55-250mm lenses along with two sturdy tripods. We used the dim yellow lights already installed in the house and the tube lights.Apart from the above we also added fairy lights to the background for aesthetics and functionality - For the script and plot I used Microsoft Word. - We recorded and dubbed the voices using a microphone and we recorded our original music using instruments with the help of music students. - My online blog helped track my progress and the film posted onYouTube is the outcome. A film cannot be made without the use of hardware, software and online technologies. From writing the script to making the final film the above technologies play an important part . For example ‘The Sandwich’ was shot using hardware, written using online technology , edited using software's like Davinci resolve and iMovies and updated online in the form of a blog.
  • 12. The process of creating and shooting our film ‘The Sandwich’ has helped me develop my skills ,bring out my imagination and learn the art of storytelling by expressing what i feel. I have grown a lot as a filmmaker during this task and I hope this will help me on my journey of becoming a filmmaker and media aspirant. Hopefully this catches the attention of my audience as I've researched on audience behaviour and the aspects of a film that are attention catching which I've incorporated in my film. Some of them are listed below 1. Narrative must Help the Audience Construct their Own Identity 2. Background music 3. Lighting 4. Discuss real life problems 5. Know that all your audience aren't the same 6. Establishing an emotional bond 7. Communicate clearly 8. Be authentic
