6. Research Experience
2012 – 2014, I was part of the research team that investigated whether it was better for
people with HIV infection to start taking HIV medicines as soon as they found that they
had HIV or wait until their CD4 cell count is less than 350 cells/mm3. The study was
called Strategic Timing of Ant-Retroviral Treatment (START).The study results have
influenced change of policy in initiation of ART drugs among HIV infected people.

2008 – 2013, I was part of the team that investigated the Safety of discontinuing
Cotrimoxazole among African adults on ART. It was a randomized controlled trial. The
study results indicated that it was safer to continue with septrin despite the CD4 count
results.
2001 – 2007, I was involved as a Study Clerk in educating clients on several
immunological studies looking at interventions for possible prevention and treatment of
HIV and collecting information about the illnesses which affect people infected with HIV.
Mobilizing, Educating and obtaining informed Consent were my main tasks
1998- 2001, I was involved as a Study Clerk in educating clients about a study that
looked at the effectiveness of contrimaxazole in preventing opportunistic diseases in
People Living with HIV/AIDS. Mobilizing, Educating and obtaining informed Consent
were my main tasks
1999-2000, I was involved as a Study Clerk still in educating clients about TB prophylaxis
study. This involved giving INH to about 200 clients who participated in the
Pneumococcal Vaccine Trial and had a positive TB skin test (PPD)
1994-1998, I was involved as a Clinic Assistant in educating and providing information
about and prevention of chest infections amongst TASO Entebbe clients who were later
recruited into pneumococcal vaccine Trial Project. The study was a placebo controlled
vaccine trial to prevent pneumonia in HIV infected adults in Entebbe.
As a member of a team of Researchers since 1994, I have a wealth of experience in the
field of health education and biomedical research
