DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNITY HEALTH NURSING
ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
 The department of community health nursing is one among the six
departments of faculty of nursing, Rama University. The department is
involved in training of nursing students in the area of family assessment
and community assessment o identify health problems of people living in
both urban and rural areas.
 The department helps and motivate the students to participate in all
social awareness programmes, national health programmes with help of
effective audio visual aids, self explanatory health flexes, posters,
pamphlets, documentaries etc. Department faculty and students are
encouraged with research activities, attending conferences in the area of
preventive and promotive health care services.
Vision
 The vision of our department is to train young professionals in the field
of research, education, attitude and practice to create positive changes
in rural and urban health care setting. Provide family-centred health
care by adopting holistic care approach.
Mission
 To provide quality and comprehensive education in community health
nursing
 Prepare skilled community health nurses as a clinician, educator, leader and
researcher that strengthen the community and well being of individual and
society.
 Encourage and strengthen students to work in various community setups
independently and effectively.
 Provide evidence based care in various settings such
as school, home, office, clinics, rural and urban
areas.
Philosophy
The essential dignity and worth of the individual.
The possession by individual of potentialities and resources for managing
their own lives.
The importance of freedom to express one’s individuality.
The great capacity for growth within all social beings.
The right of the individual to basic necessities ( food, shelter,
medical care) without which fulfillment of life is often blocked.

Objectives
 To impart essential knowledge, attitude and skills to provide quality services
in communities.
 To empower learners to respond to health needs in the cultural context using
existing facilities.
 To develop skills for collaboration with community based groups towards
health promotion
 To make students aware of the role of nurses in health care delivery systems.
 To promote research mindedness in learners through the use of
epidemiological methods.
 To Provide quality education to the students using a variety of
educational methods.
 To Undertake community development activities to promote health of
the community
 To Promote faculty capabilities through faculty development
programmes.
 To actively participate in research activities of the department.
 To provide primary health care for the people in assigned and adopted
communities
 To provide excellent community based training to the UG/PG student
nurses
 To coordinate and conduct research activities with National &
international organizations
 To design health programs and implement, based on information collected by
general & specific surveys.
 To render comprehensive, promotive, preventive, curative and rehabilitative
services to the community through outreach activities
 To facilitate participation in National Health programmes
