Artificial intelligence or AI is the field studying how to create machines that exhibit intelligent behavior. AI is a broad field that encompasses many different technologies and approaches. The document discusses several concepts about AI, including that AI aims to match and someday overcome human intelligence, but that it can never truly dominate humans since it is limited to learning, storage, probability and approximation. While AI has potential benefits, it also risks loss of privacy and manipulation if not developed and applied carefully. The conclusion is that AI is neither simple nor as complex as often portrayed, and that humans will never be replaced due to our unique ability to think and dream in new ways.

Cognitive Architectures:
Cognitive architectures are models of the human mind that attempt to capture the various cognitive processes involved in consciousness. These architectures use a set of rules and algorithms to simulate the human thought process, allowing the system to exhibit intelligent behavior and decision-making capabilities. One of the most well-known cognitive architectures is Soar, which has been used to simulate human-like reasoning in various domains, such as problem-solving and language understanding.
Neural Networks:
Neural networks are a set of algorithms that attempt to simulate the behavior of the human brain. These networks are composed of interconnected nodes that process and transmit information in a manner similar to biological neurons. Neural networks have been used to model various aspects of consciousness, such as perception, learning, and decision-making. However, they have limited explanatory power when it comes to the subjective experience of consciousness.
Robotics:
Robotics is the field of engineering that deals with the design, construction, and operation of robots. Robotic systems can be used to study and simulate human-like behavior and consciousness. For example, humanoid robots can be programmed to recognize and respond to human emotions, learn from experience, and interact with the environment in a manner similar to human beings.
Virtual Reality:
Virtual reality (VR) is a computer-generated simulation of a three-dimensional environment. VR can be used to create immersive experiences that mimic real-world scenarios and interactions. VR systems can be used to study the effects of sensory input and feedback on consciousness, as well as to develop AC systems that can interact with humans in a realistic manner.
In conclusion, presenting AC is a complex and ongoing research challenge that involves a combination of cognitive, computational, and engineering approaches. The development of AC systems will require a deep understanding of the nature of consciousness, as well as the ability to model and simulate the cognitive processes involved in subjective experience and self-awareness. While significant progress has been made in this field, there is still much work to do.
Improving Artificial Intelligence by Studying the Brain
Tahoe Silicon Mountain, a network of technology professionals who live and work in the Tahoe-Truckee area, is pleased to welcome Gunnar Newquist to present: “Improving Artificial Intelligence by Studying the Brain”
Current artificial intelligence (AI) only works with big data and lots of processing power, and it only delivers a solution for the particular problem for which it was designed. The next revolution in AI, called artificial general intelligence, is for a machine to learn, plan, and acquire new skills in complex environments.
Gunnar Newquist, CEO of Brain2Bot, received his Ph.D. in Molecular Neuroscience at the University of Nevada, Reno and went on to found Brain2Bot, which is using principles of intelligence derived from neuroscience to build artificial general intelligence.
Newquist will discuss how neuroscience can help us deliver AI that is both safe and effective and how some of the biggest advances in AI have been inspired by advances in neuroscience.

Intuition: Its Powers and Perils
Introduction
As a research psychologist and communicator of psychological science, I have spent a career
pondering the connections between subjective and objective truth, between feeling and fact, between
intuition and reality. I'm predisposed to welcome unbidden hunches, creative ideas, the Spirit's
workings. I once took an instant liking to a fellow teenager, to whom I've now been married for nearly
forty years. When I meet job applicants, my gut reactions sometimes kick in within seconds, before I
can explain my feelings in words. “Not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that
counts can be counted," said a sign in Albert Einstein's office.
But from science and everyday life, I also know that my intuition sometimes errs. My geographical
intuition tells me that Reno is east of Los Angeles, that Rome is south of New York, that Atlanta is east
of Detroit. But I am wrong, wrong, and wrong. “The first principle," said Einstein's fellow physicist
Richard Feynman, “is that you must not fool yourself—and you are the easiest person to fool."
For Webster and for this book, intuition is our capacity for direct knowledge, for immediate insight
without observation or reason. “Intuitive thinking is perception-like, rapid, effortless," notes Princeton
University psychologist Daniel Kahneman. By contrast, “deliberate thinking is reasoning-like, critical,
and analytic."
Do we all have untapped intuitive powers? Are we worthy of Shakespeare’s acclaim, “in apprehension
how like a god!"? When hiring, firing, and investing should we plug into our “right brain"
premonitions? Should we follow the example of Star War's Luke Skywalker, by turning off our
computers and trusting the Force?
Or are skeptics right to define intuition as our inner knowing that we're right, whether we are or not?
Are we like “the hollow man . . . headpiece filled with straw" (T. S. Eliot)? With bright people so often
believing demonstrably dumb things, do we instead need more “left brain" rationality? To think and
act smarter, should we more energetically check intuition against reality and subject creative hunch to
skeptical scrutiny?
The Acclaimed Powers of Intuition
In his BBC Reith Lecture in 2000, Prince Charles lifted up the wisdom of the heart. “Buried deep within
each and every one of us there is an instinctive, heart felt awareness that provides—if we allow it to—
the most reliable guide as to whether or not our actions are really in the long term interests of our
planet and all the life it supports. . . . Wisdom, empathy and compassion have no place in the
empirical world yet traditional wisdoms would ask 'without them are we truly human?'" We need, said
the future king, “to listen rather more to the common sense emanating from our hearts."
In this postmodernist New Age, Prince Charles has plenty of company. Scholars, popular writers, and
workshop gurus are training people .

Is artificial superintelligence (ASI) imminent? Adam Ford will assess the evidence and ethical importance of artificial intelligence; its opportunities and risks. Drawing on the history of progress in AI and how today it surpasses peak human capability in some domains, he will present forecasts about further progress.
"Progress in AI will likely be explosive; even more significant than both the agricultural and industrial revolutions" - Adam will explore the notion of intelligence and what aspects are missing in AI now and how 'understanding' arises in biological intelligence and how it could be realised in AI over the next decade or two. Uncanny Valley and Human Destiny
Uncanny Valley addresses our reactions to humanoid objects, such as robots, a video game characters, or dolls, and how they look and act ‘almost’ like a real human. Feeling of uneasiness or disgust in the observer are addressed directly, rather than familiarity or attraction. The theory was proposed by Japanese roboticist Masahiro Mori in 1970 and has been explored by many researchers and artists since. It has application in AI, robotics, MMI, and human-computer interaction, and helps designers to create more appealing devices that can interact with people in various domains, such as industry, education, entertainment, defence, health care, et al.
In this lecture we explain and demonstrate the fundamentals before extending the principle to sound, motion, actions, and eyes as an output mechanism. We also note that all this poses some challenges and risks in the potential for reduced the emotional connections, empathy, acceptance, and trust between humans and machines. On a further dimension the potential to create threat and terror can be useful opportunity in the military domain. It is thus important to understand the causes and effects of the uncanny valley in the wider sense in order to meet the needs of each application space

As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.

AI is a vast field. At this point it is an aspirational term reflecting a goal. It’s just a suitcase word enclosing a foggy constellation of things – plural – that do have real definitions and edges to them. AI is the intelligence introduced by human beings with a goal of overcoming the human intelligence someday.
