1. Are you a sinner?
If you have ever told a lie or repeated false statements about someone, then
you have broken the 9th Commandment.This is called lying.
If you have ever taken something that does not belong to you - no matter the
value or intention, you’ve broken the 8th Commandment.This is called theft.
If you have ever looked at person to lust after him/her you have already
committed adultery in your heart - the 7th Commandment. This is called
adultery.
If you have ever been angry at someone, you are guilty of murder and this
violates the 6th Commandment.
If you have ever desired or been jealous or envious at someone else’s
property, you have violated the 10th Commandment.
Not worshiping God or holding something of more importance than God, you
violate the 1st and 2nd Commandments.
If you have ever used God’s Name or the Name of Jesus Christ as a swear
word, you have blasphemed and are guilty of violating the 3rd
Commandment.
If you have not kept the Sabbath, you have broken the 4th Commandment.
If you have not always honoured your father and mother, you’ve broken the 5th
Commandment.
The Bible calls the breaking of these Commandments sin. In fact anything we
do, think or say that is not pleasing to God is sin. In addition, we sin in the things
we don’t do, but should - (such as reading the Bible or praying).
Most of us - if we reflect honestly - have broken most of these
commandments - every day of our lives. We seldom go through a day not
having broken most of them.
The greatest problem is that the Bible says that even if you break the Law in
only one point, you are a Law breaker and you are excluded from heaven
(James 2:10).
On the other hand if you want to go to Heaven by your own righteousness, it
says you “must be perfect as your Heavenly Father is perfect” (Matthew 5:48).

2. The only thing God can do with sin or rebellion against His Law is to judge it
and punish it (Hebrews 9:47). God’s punishment for sin is eternity in hell.
(Revelation 21:8 and 1 Corinthians 6:9-10.)
God is eternal. God’s Word is eternal, so breaking that eternal Law, carries
eternal consequences. God’s punishment for sin is both death and judgement.
When you die, you will spend eternity in either Heaven or hell. The Bible says
that God will not let the guilty go unpunished (Exodus 34:7).
Hell is described, in the Bible, as a place of eternal torment in fire and
brimstone. A place where the worm never dies, a place where there will be
weeping and gnashing of teeth.
This punishment sounds harsh, but we deserve it.
God has provided an alternative.
God’s Punishment for Sin

3. The Good News is that the
punishment for our sin has
already been paid for by
Jesus Christ on the cross.
Jesus took the punishment
that you deserve on Himself.
You do not have to pay for
your own sin. Jesus has
already paid the penalty for
your sins. But you do need to
receive that promise of
forgiveness of sin by faith
and thanksgiving. (1 John
1:9).
There is, however, a cost.
You must repent of all your
sin and firmly commit to live
for God until you die.
Repentance means seeing
that the life you are living is
wrong, and that God’s way is
right. You stop going your
way and start going God’s
way. It is an attitude of the
mind (Romans 12:2).
There is a condition attached as well. You have been lord of your own life, but
now Jesus wants to be Lord of your life. Until now, you’ve decided what you
want to do. Jesus wants to tell you what He wants you to do.
This is the only way that you will go to Heaven (John 14:6). This is God’s way of
ensuring you go to Heaven. (Isaiah 55:8-9).
