The Agricultural Productivity Programme for Southern Africa (APPSA) is a 6-year project running from 2013-2019 that was launched in Malawi, Mozambique, and Zambia to increase availability of improved agricultural technologies. The project establishes Regional Centers of Leadership focused on commodities of regional importance and supports regional collaboration in research and development. World Bank provides country-specific loans totaling $30 million for each initial country and $50 million for Angola. Centers were established in Malawi for maize, Mozambique for rice, and Zambia for legumes. The project has 49 technology generation projects, has disseminated over 10 technologies, and has supported infrastructure, equipment, and training at the Centers of
