Ivonne Jansen from Waag Society discusses reasons for participating in the Apps4Europe contest and ways citizens can get involved through various events. The contest aims to bring together government, coders, and citizens to collaboratively design apps that use open data to solve local issues. Participating provides opportunities to gain experience, expand one's network and professional skills, and create apps that have both local and global value by addressing needs in one's own life or community. Quality of data, relevance of data, and connections to networks are important considerations.
